Unplanned Sea Day

Remember yesterday that I mentioned that the sea was a bit rocky? Well apparently the weather has continued enough that our stop at Great Stirrup Cay was cancelled.  Like most of the other cruise lines that inhabit the Caribbean – Norwegian has a “private island” type location where all their ships on the eastern route stop for a day. It is a day for sand, sun, BBQ, and the occasional venture trail depending on the line. And, since the line has made the investment, obviously they would like to make use of it.

The catch? the Bay has to be deep enough for the larger ships, plus you have to be able to dock them. Apparently the Encore is too large which means that you have to get 49xx passengers + all the staff for the mid day meal to shore by tender. Any day with significant waves is going to be a no-go. So there we were, 0900 in the morning with tenders due to start at 1000. We are essentially holding place. We get the announcement that “it isn’t safe to tender” so we will get to enjoy another day at sea…

I looked out the window. Huh. I don’t see any waves at all. Ok, whatever, put my headphones back on and continue stitching.  This way I am fine and I don’t have to listen to all the people around me who seem to be complaining….

I just finished mostly packing up. This leg finishes tomorrow. After that it is the usual chaos of boarding day. Then we will set off…

About Holly

fiber person - knitter, spinner, weaver who spent 33 years being a military officer to fund the above. And home. And family. Sewing and quilting projects are also in the stash. After living again in Heidelberg after retiring (finally) from the U.S. Army May 2011, we moved to the US ~ Dec 2015. Something about being over 65 and access to health care. It also might have had to do with finding a buyer for our house. Allegedly this will provide me a home base in the same country as our four adult children, all of whom I adore, so that I can drive them totally insane. Considerations of time to knit down the stash…(right, and if you believe that…) and spin and .... There is now actually enough time to do a bit of consulting, editing. Even more amazing - we have only one household again. As long as everyone understands that I still, 40 years into our marriage, don't do kitchens or bathrooms. For that matter, not being a golden retriever, I don't do slippers or newspapers either. I don’t miss either the military or full-time clinical practice. Limiting my public health/travel med/consulting and lecturing to “when I feel like it” has let me happily spend my pension cruising, stash enhancing (oops), arguing with the DH about where we are going to travel next and book buying. Life is good!
