Two in a row

This is the second day of all the remaining sea days. There will be six as a matter of fact. On the seventh day we …. dock. So no rest for those who chose Sunday as that day.

So anyway. I am still not on any kind of regular sleep schedule By 0400 most mornings I am giving up on sleep and head up to the lounge. It is quiet. The coffee machine (hot water, coffee, decaf) is available 24 hours although the lounge is officially listed as not being open between 0200-0700. Or is it 0800? In any case, I am certainly not the only one up and about at this hour of the morning and in the lounge. I am not including the cleaning staff in those numbers. They are hard at work at all times.

Early on, it mostly seems to be middle-aged and older guys several of whom seem to be completely occupied with tablet/laptop and headphones. By 0700 the numbers have expanded and there is more than a scattering of people.

Did I mention that there are almost NO children on this cruise? There is the occasional crying baby heard, but that it is about it. Apparently it is too early for most school holidays combined with parents/grandparents too smart to pull kids out of school when faced with this many sea days.

This lounge is on Deck 15 all the way forward. The large windows you see behind me are facing out. My small corner is comfortable. From here I can people watch while completely out of the traffic pattern. On the starboard side of the ship, I am out of the direct sunlight as we sail west.  And the coffee access? Close, oh, so close.

About Holly

fiber person - knitter, spinner, weaver who spent 33 years being a military officer to fund the above. And home. And family. Sewing and quilting projects are also in the stash. After living again in Heidelberg after retiring (finally) from the U.S. Army May 2011, we moved to the US ~ Dec 2015. Something about being over 65 and access to health care. It also might have had to do with finding a buyer for our house. Allegedly this will provide me a home base in the same country as our four adult children, all of whom I adore, so that I can drive them totally insane. Considerations of time to knit down the stash…(right, and if you believe that…) and spin and .... There is now actually enough time to do a bit of consulting, editing. Even more amazing - we have only one household again. As long as everyone understands that I still, 40 years into our marriage, don't do kitchens or bathrooms. For that matter, not being a golden retriever, I don't do slippers or newspapers either. I don’t miss either the military or full-time clinical practice. Limiting my public health/travel med/consulting and lecturing to “when I feel like it” has let me happily spend my pension cruising, stash enhancing (oops), arguing with the DH about where we are going to travel next and book buying. Life is good!
