Tiled Scenes

I am back in Barcelona. Had a lovely walk to one of the old quarters, then up Las Ramblas to Placa Catalunya.

Since I actually have decent wifi today, this post is mostly about pictures and not words. My apologies ahead of time for the fact that I didn’t get the photos straightened. That is on my list of future plans. There some back streets where there are wonderful hand-painted tiles adorning the walls. Some of them depict the shop, residence or institution housed there. Others portray life as it was or key family milestones. I thought they were well worth sharing. As always, double click on a thumbnail to enlarge.

Since most of the tiles were on walls at a height well above my head – that explains part of the distortion. The rest comes from the fact of not being able to shoot centered due to sign posts, cars, or other “things” in the way. I am thinking that I really need early morning, a step ladder and a day without either really bright sun or rain.

    Love the tiles! Nice photos.

I have never been to Spain, but I have been to Lisbon, which is where I have seen the most beautiful, amazing tiles. (Have you been to there?)

This will give you some idea: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Azulejo There is also a National Tile Museum in Lisbon which was excellent.

The one on the bottom row, right – is that from a bakery? It would be fun to have a bit of tile in my forever house.

Love the Sunday comics look in the upper left. Calvin and Hobbes!
