Three at Sea (2/3)

Since today was just a bit less rough and ready than yesterday, and still at sea without the ability to hang out on deck or walk along corridors without making sure there was a railing – I though I would give you the rest of the photos that I took at Cairns. I now also have wifi on ship (courtesy of status upgrade after the last three legs) so that hopefully uploading won’t be completely insane.

Ok – Cairns. We got off ship and hiked around town for a number of hours. I will not go into detail about our second trip off the ship. Just leave it at all aboard was 1600. At 1500 George decided that he needed more books…. He quickly looked up two bookstores, but didn’t get street addresses, directions or pay attention to the names. Crystal Ball Bookstore? Why be surprised that it is a new age bookstore full of incense? We did find the second bookstore which was second floor in a mall. Managed to get back on the ship with five minutes to spare…

Pictures:

There was a lovely Esplanade with various cultures, children’s playgrounds, seating, plants,

and a view of the bay.

at the far end of the walk, just where it jagged left toward the city itself were markers of the season –

We more or less meandered along the main streets running parallel to the shore. Past the library.

with some amazing fig trees along with their history. Stopped at the historical museum which, other than being a bit better organized, reminded me of the town museum in Esperance (Western Australia)

with the addition of more Aboriginal history and art.

The old Courthouse

has been turned into a gallery. The new one wasn’t worth a photo – your bog standard government building.

As I mentioned – we made it back on ship and sailed out on time –

About Holly

fiber person - knitter, spinner, weaver who spent 33 years being a military officer to fund the above. And home. And family. Sewing and quilting projects are also in the stash. After living again in Heidelberg after retiring (finally) from the U.S. Army May 2011, we moved to the US ~ Dec 2015. Something about being over 65 and access to health care. It also might have had to do with finding a buyer for our house. Allegedly this will provide me a home base in the same country as our four adult children, all of whom I adore, so that I can drive them totally insane. Considerations of time to knit down the stash…(right, and if you believe that…) and spin and .... There is now actually enough time to do a bit of consulting, editing. Even more amazing - we have only one household again. As long as everyone understands that I still, 40 years into our marriage, don't do kitchens or bathrooms. For that matter, not being a golden retriever, I don't do slippers or newspapers either. I don’t miss either the military or full-time clinical practice. Limiting my public health/travel med/consulting and lecturing to “when I feel like it” has let me happily spend my pension cruising, stash enhancing (oops), arguing with the DH about where we are going to travel next and book buying. Life is good!
