The right Pier this time

Costa Rica

If you don’t remember my bitches, moans and whines from our stop here on the way to Miami I will give you the quick refresher: there is one pier which means that two ships can dock. That meant the Neue Amsterdam and the Norwegian Pearl forcing us to the commercial port several miles away. That was when the three of us took the bus to the port entrance, then went back to the ship. This time, we docked in town as the only ship here.

Last night Jill remarked that she didn’t remember us getting a shopping guide for the port. After thinking about it, I agreed.

Well, today we recognized why – there aren’t any cruise line owned stores here – not that we particularly care but I am sure that there are those that did. I bailed off the ship early and went for a hike first one way down the shore and then the other.

I rapidly ran out of town in either direction. Fronting along the shore are a number of one-two story hotels and restaurants interspersed with streets, alleys and a few garbage piles. There were work crews actively clearing the shoreline and piling up massive accumulations of drift wood (actually, I am inclined to think of these more as drift branches and trees….). There were quiet areas and those featuring bright colors. According to my phone/watch combination I managed a good five clicks over all before stopping at one of the many handwork stalls to admire the woodwork. There were also a few sloths painted on stone or wood, but none cute enough to inflict on Miriam. So, not wanting to walk through back alleyways or catch a tour bus to somewhere else on one of the islands it was back to the ship and a very nice Latte.

About Holly

fiber person - knitter, spinner, weaver who spent 33 years being a military officer to fund the above. And home. And family. Sewing and quilting projects are also in the stash. After living again in Heidelberg after retiring (finally) from the U.S. Army May 2011, we moved to the US ~ Dec 2015. Something about being over 65 and access to health care. It also might have had to do with finding a buyer for our house. Allegedly this will provide me a home base in the same country as our four adult children, all of whom I adore, so that I can drive them totally insane. Considerations of time to knit down the stash…(right, and if you believe that…) and spin and .... There is now actually enough time to do a bit of consulting, editing. Even more amazing - we have only one household again. As long as everyone understands that I still, 40 years into our marriage, don't do kitchens or bathrooms. For that matter, not being a golden retriever, I don't do slippers or newspapers either. I don’t miss either the military or full-time clinical practice. Limiting my public health/travel med/consulting and lecturing to “when I feel like it” has let me happily spend my pension cruising, stash enhancing (oops), arguing with the DH about where we are going to travel next and book buying. Life is good!
