Sailing out of 2013

It is the last day of the year CE 2013. With a cup of tea, my DH, iPad and knitting I sit and watch both banks of the Donau.

The sky is overcast, the temp barely 4*C.
Today I can see what we passed after dark in our trip down river. Locks during the day, not in the middle of the night. Swimming up stream so to speak.

And so I can think of this past year not in numbers of ships on which I have been a passenger nor nautical miles sailed. Not number of flights nor air miles which Lufthansa had accredited to my account. My past year has really been rich in friends and experiences. It is not just the opportunity to see new cities and visit new islands; it has mostly been about people.

My mailing list has expanded and contracted over the years. From the original family and friends in April 1998 who helped me stay sane in Bosnia through colleagues from München, Heidelberg, Würzburg, Surrey, and Landstuhl to the expanded list of today. Said list ranging from family, friends dating from 1968 through to friends who I have been fortunate enough add to my life this past year.

May your cruise down the river of life be challenging but not overwhelming. After all, doing assembly musters is all well and good but a dip in the cold water is not my idea of a good time. Especially if there are sharks involved ……
