Sailing in the dark

And tonight night we will have yet another time zone change. According to my calculations this change takes us to the same time zone as eastern Brazil. That just leaves us  two hours to go; first to the Canadian Maritime and then US East Coast. In any case,, the lounge is always empty in the morning. Even so, the days aren’t all that long; this is winter in the Northern Hemisphere.

So, what else?  Oh, yes there are a number of jigsaw puzzle fanatics – In fact there is now a second puzzle on the port side of the lobby. That table is normal height and several people have been more than busy working one after another in that location. It is more than large enough for the 1000 piece puzzles that seem to be standard.

In the Yacht Club (Deck 7 forward lounge) the puzzles are on a knee high coffee table which is making them a bit awkward for many. That and the table is white – an issue for white background puzzles.

this was the latest in the upper lounge. It turned out to be a bit more challenging that many had wished. Something about mirror images and symmetry made it all a bit more challenging.

And then there are the bookshelves. Rather than take up space in the center like the lounges on the Star Class ships – these are off to the side –

there are three shelves of “swap books.” A number have turned over since the cruise beginning. Unfortunately, they seem to trend toward best sellers, mainstream popular authors. Even those that have been dropped off by fellow passengers are hardbacks. Yes, I love holding books in my hands. But seriously? The weight of hardbacks is hard (for me) to justify. OTOH – I am a bit excessive on cross-stitch supplies.

Is existentially done. I am counting it for a finish in any case. I am going to need a good light and magnifier to do the additional back stitching.

I ate dunner in Amphora (the main restaurant)  for the first time this evening. Invitation to diner from the Destination Team. It was interesting in terms of chatting with a few of the passengers, but it (obviously) took out more hours than I usually devote to meals.

About Holly

fiber person - knitter, spinner, weaver who spent 33 years being a military officer to fund the above. And home. And family. Sewing and quilting projects are also in the stash. After living again in Heidelberg after retiring (finally) from the U.S. Army May 2011, we moved to the US ~ Dec 2015. Something about being over 65 and access to health care. It also might have had to do with finding a buyer for our house. Allegedly this will provide me a home base in the same country as our four adult children, all of whom I adore, so that I can drive them totally insane. Considerations of time to knit down the stash…(right, and if you believe that…) and spin and .... There is now actually enough time to do a bit of consulting, editing. Even more amazing - we have only one household again. As long as everyone understands that I still, 40 years into our marriage, don't do kitchens or bathrooms. For that matter, not being a golden retriever, I don't do slippers or newspapers either. I don’t miss either the military or full-time clinical practice. Limiting my public health/travel med/consulting and lecturing to “when I feel like it” has let me happily spend my pension cruising, stash enhancing (oops), arguing with the DH about where we are going to travel next and book buying. Life is good!
