Ponte Delgada

We docked in the Azores exactly on time this morning. So far the threats of foul weather haven’t quite caught up with us, but they will affect our cruise from here. It has nothing to do with Friday the Thirteenth, but blame can always be cast.

It was mist/foggy/faint rain – whatever you want to call it. The visibility wasn’t terribly high the first thing this morning. I waited till about 1000 figuring that there was no reason to get off ship prior to anything in town being open.

Brilliance of the Seas

I found a lovely new graffiti that I don’t remember from the last time.

More of the lovely sidewalks and a great, new craft type store located where I used to go for tea towels, floss and yarn. In business for about a year, she has a full line of floss (DMC) fabrics on the bolt for both needlework and quilting, yarn, crochet threads and all needles, hooks and notions one needs for quilting, sewing, knitting and crochet. Oh yes, and for cross-stitch as well. Still a small supply of tea towels for tourists, but it is not their main product.

Yarn, fabric, zippers, needles, floss ….

From there it was wander around – looking at all the lovely patterns in the roads and sidewalks.

Feeling sad at the loss of the small button shop on the corner of the main square and finally heading back to the ship for that all important next meal…

after all, there is always another meal…..

About Holly

fiber person - knitter, spinner, weaver who spent 33 years being a military officer to fund the above. And home. And family. Sewing and quilting projects are also in the stash. After living again in Heidelberg after retiring (finally) from the U.S. Army May 2011, we moved to the US ~ Dec 2015. Something about being over 65 and access to health care. It also might have had to do with finding a buyer for our house. Allegedly this will provide me a home base in the same country as our four adult children, all of whom I adore, so that I can drive them totally insane. Considerations of time to knit down the stash…(right, and if you believe that…) and spin and .... There is now actually enough time to do a bit of consulting, editing. Even more amazing - we have only one household again. As long as everyone understands that I still, 40 years into our marriage, don't do kitchens or bathrooms. For that matter, not being a golden retriever, I don't do slippers or newspapers either. I don’t miss either the military or full-time clinical practice. Limiting my public health/travel med/consulting and lecturing to “when I feel like it” has let me happily spend my pension cruising, stash enhancing (oops), arguing with the DH about where we are going to travel next and book buying. Life is good!

  1. By my calculations you are almost in Ireland – a place I would much like to visit.
I trust the crossing was good and that you enjoy all things Irish while you are there.
The wedding was excellent – we will fill you in on details later.
