Planning February

Not sure anymore what I had for an original plan this month. Outside of the Eldest having a birthday. Sewing, stitching, and more cleaning also come to mind.

But, since I am still in possession of my clipboard, that should take care of everything – right? Oh, wait. What about everything else that lands on my calendar from medical appointments, to pick-ups, drop-offs, some more webinars so that I know that I have banked enough CME for the year, a few vaccine clinics to work. Not exactly overwhelming or anything but I am finding that blocks of uninterrupted time are become less and less bountiful.

Oh, yes, and helping Dani & Alex move. I can move boxes, so volunteering for dog sitting just isn’t going to cut it.

But planning what to do when? That might just take more mental effort than I am willing to spend. A smart person, or a logical person might say – what it most critical? Or, since no stitching is really all that critical, what is closest to completion. Or, with the same amount of stitches, how many things can I complete. Cross stitch is obviously crossed stitches. Each piece has a fixed number for that piece that need to be completed before I can call it done. With the modern invention of computers, tablets, and software I can take many PDF patterns, load them into Pattern Keeper (brilliant Swedish programmer). Tracking progress is easy and I could even write down my stitches completed for the day if I remember to. Which takes me back to which when. There are those who are organized enough to have a planned rotation of projects. Others work on a single project till completed then move on to the next.

I think I am more of the “shiny” type. Kind of like a magpie easily distracted…. Ooohh – that looks neat, let me stitch on that one. Or, crud – this is too much black, I will move on to something else. Obviously this leads to more than one project at a time, often more than one worked on each day. Example – my Fox. Total of 6720 stitches. I am at 23% complete. If I just worked on him, I could be done in five days. But then I wouldn’t be putting time into the Spangler full coverage, or the Long Dog or the two really cool dinosaurs that are in this month’s CloudsFactory SAL.

Decisions, decisions.

Where are those 20 sided dice anyway?

About Holly

fiber person - knitter, spinner, weaver who spent 33 years being a military officer to fund the above. And home. And family. Sewing and quilting projects are also in the stash. After living again in Heidelberg after retiring (finally) from the U.S. Army May 2011, we moved to the US ~ Dec 2015. Something about being over 65 and access to health care. It also might have had to do with finding a buyer for our house. Allegedly this will provide me a home base in the same country as our four adult children, all of whom I adore, so that I can drive them totally insane. Considerations of time to knit down the stash…(right, and if you believe that…) and spin and .... There is now actually enough time to do a bit of consulting, editing. Even more amazing - we have only one household again. As long as everyone understands that I still, 40 years into our marriage, don't do kitchens or bathrooms. For that matter, not being a golden retriever, I don't do slippers or newspapers either. I don’t miss either the military or full-time clinical practice. Limiting my public health/travel med/consulting and lecturing to “when I feel like it” has let me happily spend my pension cruising, stash enhancing (oops), arguing with the DH about where we are going to travel next and book buying. Life is good!
