Phillipsburg

Here I am, sitting in the Telecom lounge at the Cruise terminal. Wifi for the day at a fixed cost. CNN is on the screen (at least I think it is CNN but it could be anyone’s morning show but for Fox since two irrational sides are being presented for everything) and I am watching the report on the Explorer Of The Seas. Cruise cut short and all of that secondary to illness. All the usual statements about sanitizing, hand washing etc.

What they don’t say, and it isn’t popular to say it; All the cleansers and soaps in the world don’t help if the flipping idiots don’t wash their hands. If you do some literature searches what you will find is that medical professionals are about the best – nurses above the docs on this one. But even they are not 100%. Now move to a cruise ship where you have a mixing of society. There are those who always wash their hands without fail. Then there are those who never bother. Whether or not there is illness on a ship is actually related to age and ethnic origin of the passengers. The more seniors – the more problems. The more back-to-back, the more problems.

Now that might not make any sense to you, but stop for a moment. There is a form you fill out when you register for your ship’s card that asks about illness. New cruisers are going to answer more honestly than those who cruise more often. Anyone who has cruised before knows that if they say “yes I am ill’ they are going to be denied boarding. Anyone who is on the ship already doesn’t get asked if they are ill. Anyone on ship who is ill only goes to medical if they are new on ships or so sick they can’t stand up.

All of which means that the actually numbers of ill are somewhere between 3-10x the numbers who actually get seen

Meanwhile, the sun is finally coming out here. Besides my Legend, the Disney Fantasy, Oceania’s Rivera, NCL Epic, Costa Mediterranea were also docked once again providing more tourists than locals.

If I have time, I may hike down a mile, over the small hill and look at the possibility of snorkeling. Otherwise? Visit the camera shop, my favorite jewelry store and just wander around.
