Ovation – Day 5 – and final

which was spent motoring along in the fog once again accompanied by ship’s horn. Unlike the 10 knots/hr that we traveled while motoring up the coast in order to take a couple of days to reach Ketchikan, this was much less of a stroll and more of a determined march back down the coast. Of course, I am just presuming the coast was there since I couldn’t see the water from my balcony, much less the shore.

I had been invited to the Coastal Kitchen for breakfast, so trust me, I indulged with what was called Eggs Baja (scrambled with salsa, jalapeños, sour cream and tomato) plus the usual sides. And coffee that was several cuts above the swill served in the rest on the ship. Sorry, but I really really miss my lattes and the coffee machine in the lounges.

While I was at it (since I had completely forgotten about the Concierge Lounge (to which Pinnacles are no longer invited) I indulged in a scouting trip. The Lounge is located across the back of the ship on Deck 12 with incredible views, comfortable furniture and my precious WMF coffee machine. Since there are 157 Suits (according to the listing on Vacationstogo.com) I can see where it would easily become over crowded on a happy hour evening. On this particular cruise there are 104 (or was it 140) Pinnacles which is entirely too many for my taste.

There is also a lovely lounge on Deck 5 where I think they run performances where I hung out for a while, hiding out from everyone while I stitched this morning until it became overly crowded. Since it was also signed as “Vaccinated only” it mean that far too many people had a glass of something or a cup of coffee; enjoying their time without a mask.

It was Halloween related stitching after I figured out that my time spent on Owl Forest’s Alice resulting in a potted tree being 10 stitches too far to the right, Two hours of stitching to be ripped out. Ugh. My evening was quiet and I will head to bed early.

Again, pictures to be added when I am home…

About Holly

fiber person - knitter, spinner, weaver who spent 33 years being a military officer to fund the above. And home. And family. Sewing and quilting projects are also in the stash. After living again in Heidelberg after retiring (finally) from the U.S. Army May 2011, we moved to the US ~ Dec 2015. Something about being over 65 and access to health care. It also might have had to do with finding a buyer for our house. Allegedly this will provide me a home base in the same country as our four adult children, all of whom I adore, so that I can drive them totally insane. Considerations of time to knit down the stash…(right, and if you believe that…) and spin and .... There is now actually enough time to do a bit of consulting, editing. Even more amazing - we have only one household again. As long as everyone understands that I still, 40 years into our marriage, don't do kitchens or bathrooms. For that matter, not being a golden retriever, I don't do slippers or newspapers either. I don’t miss either the military or full-time clinical practice. Limiting my public health/travel med/consulting and lecturing to “when I feel like it” has let me happily spend my pension cruising, stash enhancing (oops), arguing with the DH about where we are going to travel next and book buying. Life is good!
