On my way to Venice

0615-  so far it has been an interesting morning. Lyft worked to get me to the airport.  My driver was a very interesting Nigerian grad student studying in an Oakland based MBA program and lives in San Leandro. He has classes in the evening, drives and studies at night. His interest is the interface between micro-economic group borrowing and the banking system.
As it turns out, Air Canada doesnt open its ticket counter till 0430 which left me with plenty of time to visit with the Canadian couple behind me surrounded with duffle bags. He is French Speaking, she is English speaking. They are headed to Ottawa. The three year job they came to the Bay Area for ended abruptly. Start ups can do that. So here they were with everything flying home. Their check-in obviously took longer than mine. Ten bags?
The flight will be less than 20% full. How lovely. Lots and lots of room. Nothing for free but coffee/tea/juice….
1600 – East Coast Time – Toronto
Sitting in the Maple Leaf Lounge talking with a German couple. He thinks that a great thing to do is sail across the Atlantic in a sail boat (he has done that). I am with her – too much work….
Technically my next flight is on Air Canada – it is a code share with Lufthansa so I am back in my comfort zone.  In Frankfurt  I have yet another connection on Lufthansa and will get to Venice about 1000 in the morning.
I have less than an hour to catch the hotel shuttle before they go on lunch break till 1400….

About Holly

fiber person - knitter, spinner, weaver who spent 33 years being a military officer to fund the above. And home. And family. Sewing and quilting projects are also in the stash. After living again in Heidelberg after retiring (finally) from the U.S. Army May 2011, we moved to the US ~ Dec 2015. Something about being over 65 and access to health care. It also might have had to do with finding a buyer for our house. Allegedly this will provide me a home base in the same country as our four adult children, all of whom I adore, so that I can drive them totally insane. Considerations of time to knit down the stash…(right, and if you believe that…) and spin and .... There is now actually enough time to do a bit of consulting, editing. Even more amazing - we have only one household again. As long as everyone understands that I still, 40 years into our marriage, don't do kitchens or bathrooms. For that matter, not being a golden retriever, I don't do slippers or newspapers either. I don’t miss either the military or full-time clinical practice. Limiting my public health/travel med/consulting and lecturing to “when I feel like it” has let me happily spend my pension cruising, stash enhancing (oops), arguing with the DH about where we are going to travel next and book buying. Life is good!
