Not the World

Ok, I will admit to having occasionally looked at the high end cruises and thinking they were really not worth it.

The same for me applies to living in an over 55 community. Yes, I have a number of very good friends who enjoy the life style, the security and the convenience. Maybe sometime in the future I would think about it. But not in California, it just wouldn’t make sense. Then there is also the privacy issue which is why we bought a house and not a condo when we moved back. I hate condo associations and boards.
Where was I? Oh yes, THE WORLD (their caps, not mine) is docked next to us here in Puerto Vallarta. Big whoop. I can remember a significant number of years reading something in a travel magazine right before it was built. You could buy your on ship condo at that time for somewhere between 1-5M$ US. Then you have the basic issues of food (meals not included) laundry (not included) housekeeping (not included). And condo fees? Did I mention the condo fees? For a measly $10k/m US you will have the privilege of   being on a ship with only a share vote in the itinerary and the ability to pay for additionals like meals in the restaurants or cleaning service.
To me that adds up to enough money to cruise continuously on any of the midship lines with everything taken care of. And the class of passenger is much, much better….
Again it is hot, humid and I made a quick shopping trip for a couple of essentials then will head back to the ship. It is three miles to town and I am too lazy to walk and too cheap to take a cab. Maybe next time?

About Holly

fiber person - knitter, spinner, weaver who spent 33 years being a military officer to fund the above. And home. And family. Sewing and quilting projects are also in the stash. After living again in Heidelberg after retiring (finally) from the U.S. Army May 2011, we moved to the US ~ Dec 2015. Something about being over 65 and access to health care. It also might have had to do with finding a buyer for our house. Allegedly this will provide me a home base in the same country as our four adult children, all of whom I adore, so that I can drive them totally insane. Considerations of time to knit down the stash…(right, and if you believe that…) and spin and .... There is now actually enough time to do a bit of consulting, editing. Even more amazing - we have only one household again. As long as everyone understands that I still, 40 years into our marriage, don't do kitchens or bathrooms. For that matter, not being a golden retriever, I don't do slippers or newspapers either. I don’t miss either the military or full-time clinical practice. Limiting my public health/travel med/consulting and lecturing to “when I feel like it” has let me happily spend my pension cruising, stash enhancing (oops), arguing with the DH about where we are going to travel next and book buying. Life is good!

I saw that ship docked next to us once, watched some folks emerging, & knew I wouldn’t do that if I could
