It was a rather trying day all around.
I cleared out all sorts of email and avoided a number of documents. Hitting the road for RAF Croughton, the roads seemed decently clear with only a bit of snit still in progress.
Not so when I got to the gates. Apparently that last inch of snow proved to be too much. The post was closed for the day. And me without my packages. No joy with BX, commissary or library. The gas station is run by civilians, all of whom managed to make it to work – go figure.
I drove back. I should have called first and not wound up back at work, 130 miles the worse for wear.
About 1500 I bagged it and took the golden retriever for a walk. There was still ice on the pond, but today there were ducks out for a hike. On the ice, no less.
leaving tracks behind them in a lot of places.
We stopped next to the pond to talk to another woman out walking a black Labrador. After watching the two bound around, I let Elana off the leash.
She, with fluff for brains – went straight after those ducks. The ducks walking on the ice. The ice on the pond. Legs windmilling in the air, barking like mad – she launched herself after those ducks. Straight into the pond and smashed through that thin sheet of ice.
At least dogs can swim.
I didn’t stop to take a picture of her clinging on the wall with just her front legs on the ledge, but passed the camera over to the other woman and went to haul the stupid dog out. Weighs 70# that dog, of shivering, panicked, hind leg kicking muscle. Wet, cold, limping and bleeding, the dog and I headed back to the house.
I finally got both of us dry, having to run towels through the dryer a couple of times. Nothing like the smell of wet dog…. The blood? Turned out she managed to rip off a back claw in her struggles. I imagine it hurt, poor dumb baby.
Spring Trees
After reassuring several members of the family that the dog had not managed to drowned herself in wild duck enthusiasm, I headed back to knitting –
with the ribbing looking decent and moving on to start the steek and complete the bottom band.
the trees do appear quite different in pinks and yellows than they did in browns.
The dog is exhausted and I have to pack for tomorrow’s trip. My pulse is even back to normal.
Poor, silly doggie! A final insult to her injury…the cat blanket!
Thought it was purrrr-fect!
Silly dog. Glad you are OK. Died laughing at Ruth’s comment above!
