There are some related facts that you need to know. First – the Independence of the Seas is a sister ship to the Liberty (previous cruise). Secondly, cruise ships have to be decorated which includes “art” mostly in the same way it does as various hotels. There might even be a theme to the art/decoration. Lastly, it is really hard to believe the value claimed by the Art Coordinator on board considering what most of it looks like. In this case, homage to the Old Masters has had some interesting results most of which are about as close to art as the average kindergarten refrigerator drawing. Not that I have an opinion or anything. Since this is the same ship on which I am taking the younger crew in March – I will see what those who really know something about art will say.
In the meantime – a certain amount on this ship is parallel in theme, style and placement to the Liberty. This does not include the main Promenade which is decorated in retail.
Then there are the shoes.
Now, the shoe gene has missed me completely. I think it also missed College Guy. The three girls inherited it full force from their dad. At least the enjoying shoes part although it seems to have expanded beyond an amazing number of loafer pairs to heels – lots of heels. Include glitz and shiny in that thought – my girls certainly have. Given the fascination with shoes that seems to permeate a significant portion of society complete with high end stores and instant name recognition for some shoes – you should not be surprised at the following ….
