North to Alaska

Via Denver. Go figure – cheaper fare and miles on Star Alliance, what can I say? And just because it is not quite the Arctic Circle doesn’t really mean that it gets dark at this time of year. Rather, the sun sets (photo taken just short of midnight) but it is more than light enough to drive without headlights (trust me on this – they are all doing it).

You should have called, or did you try? Alaska is one of my favorite states to visit. It is so convenient having direct flights. We have been twice, but have 3 mor that I want to take. Sean had a job there one summer as a chef at a fishing lodge so we had to visit him. It was my 50th state and just before my 50th birthday.

Have a great time. What all are you planning to do and see there?

There are a couple of good fabric shoes with knitting supplies and one dedicated knitting store in Fairbanks. Look up Northern Threads, for one. The knitting store is down by the University of Alaska, Fairbanks (everyone there just calls it UAF). I am blocking on the names of the other two. I had an easier time finding good fabric stores in Fairbanks than I have had here in DC!

We have a spare room near Denver if you have a lay over or not.

Okay, if I ever go there, I’ll stop someone and Alaska ’bout those headlights.

Now you’re taking a trip that’s on my bucket list. Next time you get down to the Bay Area, I recommend that you take in Pinnacles National Monument not too far from Gilroy – I think it’s in San Benito County near Hollister (the earthquake capital).
