March Insanity

There is a group of us who originally accepted a challenge from Michelle of TheSweetSheep and started a March Madness Sweater Competition. One year I won it with a sweater I knit for Maus, another year I decided that I was not in competition since I had won the previous year. Last year? Well starting the month in Afghanistan is practically insurmountable since I had well less than 1/2 the month by the time I got home.

I made the mistake a few days of inquiring on the joint blog if we were going to go for it again this year. Barbara who hails from Nova Scotia took up the challenge and went one step further, proposing four patterns from which to choose. It looks like we have sucked TinaMnNs (another Canadian) in as well.

I can see myself wearing this sweater , but again like many patterns from Vogue, it looks much better on the Ravelry Project page where there is not an XL on a XS model.

I have too many projects on the needles already. OTOH – I could take this with to the US for the next 12 days as my sole knitting project. What I decided is that if I can shop my stash for the 1400 meters of worsted weight yarn (5.00 mm needles) then I will jump in with both feet. Otherwise I will pass it by.

Now the basic question obviously will be grey or red. Unless I can possibly come up with enough natural.

What did you think? That I have any other colors of yarn for me?

    XL on XS models–you’re right. I had never quite put my finger on what was so…so… something. Thank you!

  2. Isobel says:

    I think I could see you in grey. Red not so much.

  3. Cat (the Downunder one) says:

    Grey – defurrnitely grey – we cats do not approve of those sort of patterns in red. 🙂

    I think it would look smashing in red, though you’re right about it being hard to visualize after seeing an XL on an XS model. I can’t picture it on myself at all.

  5. Carmen says:

    Can you get gauge with 2 strands of alpaca?

  6. Holly says:

    @Carmen
    don’t think so – two strands would knit at about 4,00 mm needle and this calls for a five
