Looking up

on an early walk through Chicago. The rain had barely stopped with the sidewalks still damp and the stray cab splashing through puddles. Most of the time – we just hike along with minds worrying through the days plans. Looking at street level to manage the obstacle course of city streets while not making eye contact with any of those hanging in doorways, sitting in wheel chairs or otherwise holding out a cup for money. *(see below)

What you do need to do occasionally is look up. There are clouds, interesting architectural details, shininess, and of course – the “L”

*(an aside – there are somethings I just don’t understand. The Eldest was working two jobs. She spent months looking for another job: interviews, resumes, the works. Didn’t quit. The next down has been free lancing at odd jobs to earn money. Collegeboy spent weeks filling out applications, doing interviews, following up on leads. Both those two were caught in the “jobs want experience which you don’t have because you can’t get a job…. do-loop” Ms Maus spent the summer working in a pub and now has a job at school. Obviously education and experience varies in my crew. I have friends who, when they don’t have jobs spend all their time looking, interviewing, filling out applications, creating presentations in pursuit of employment. They are not on the subway asking for handouts. They are not on the street corners asking for handouts. Especially those who are obviously able bodied….)
