La Bodeguita

My location once again is Palma Majorca. My mood is a bit insane at the moment. If it wasn’t for the fabulous food at La Bodeguita things would be a lot worse. When I was here a couple of years ago, I had the most wonderful grilled squid. Last week when I came in, it was no longer on the menu. When I asked, the owner said it was because he couldn’t always get it fresh. But if I would email before coming the next time, he would see what he could do. I went ahead and put in a reservation for today.

Back to the insanity.

Since most of you (other than reading these notes) don’t really care much about ships, cruises and the world of traveling by seas you might/might not have noticed a small article on 10 Aug about the Celebrity Millenium having some engine/azipod problem and getting stuck in Seward a couple of days. They did the refunds etc, took care of the people and flew in all the appropriate repair people. Seemingly problem solved.

As it turns out – not so. They limped again into port on their way south and have been in Ketchikan. This time it looks like they are canceling the next four cruises. Initial information has gone out to cruise agents.

Meanwhile, guess what ship George and I were connecting with at the end of our Canada expedition? Right. The third of the four cancelled cruises. Now I think Celebrity is being smart, canceling, refunding and future cruise credits as well as airline change fees. None of which helps me since George wanted the Canada portion and I was planning on enjoying the ship part down to San Diego. I am pretty sure that he won’t mind heading to SF on the 13th as he has a number of board meetings.

Me? It strands me in Vancouver for 9 days and costs me airfare to get to San Diego. The future cruise manager on this ship was on the Vision last fall. He is going to see if he can get me swapped onto the Radiance which leaves Vancouver also 13 Sept. I figure if I get to Hawaii early I can always go inflict myself on people who I know there. George has family in San Diego, but given a choice of days in San Diego or snorkeling in Hawaii…..

more challenges to follow!

What’s the Canada expedition look like?

May that be the worst problem you ever face.

Sorry about the cancellation of your cruise out of Alaska, but I’m am SO HAPPY for you that you are getting a chance to do all these cruises and seeing so many places.

I do enjoy reading your travelogs.

I’ve enjoy what little cruising I’ve done and if I didn’t have so much going on here, I’d probably be doing the same thing you are doing.

I hope you are able to continue enjoying cruises for a long time to come -sure beats planning meals, cleaning house, mowing grass etc.!

Small world, this cruising. My neighbours and good friends here will be on the Radiance 26 Aug – 6 Sept. for the Alaska cruise (finishes in Vancouver). They are planning to then travel to Jasper and tour around for a week.

Sorry to hear about the disruption to your plans – hope that something gets sorted out without too much difficulty. I agree, though – chilling out for a while in Hawaii wouldn’t be a bad way to pass the time.

I’m with Carmen on that one!
