Kinetic activity

Kinetic – –adjective – origin in English 1850-55

1. pertaining to motion.
2. caused by motion.
3. characterized by movement: Running and dancing are kinetic activities.
4. of or relating to the motion of material bodies and the forces and energy associated therewith

Or – A descriptive term which has been taken over by the military to describe active operations, contact with the enemy and otherwise turmoil and motion. This particular definition is not in Wikipedia. Instead of saying “fighting” we say – kinetic activity.

If you have been watching the news, Stars and Stripes or the better newspapers, it has been obvious that there has been on-going action in the eastern end of Afghanistan for a few days. Enough that my dreamed road trip out to deal with malaria issues has been put on hold.

That is probably ok – things around here has been frenetic and my hours have become a bit longer than they were last week. Think of adding heat to a container and the insane dance of water particles before they become gaseous and escape.

Nope, I take that back – this is Afghanistan – there is no escape.

It is the time we have now, and all our wasted time sinks into the sea and is swallowed up without a trace. The past is dust and ashes, and this incommensurably wide way leads to the pragmatic and kinetic future

John Ashbery (b. 1927), U.S. poet, critic. “The System.”
