Juneau – Mendenhall Glacier

Once again, skipping the high price tours we took the local shuttle up and back. 16$ round trip vs 30$ or 52$ – not much choice in my mind even though we were packed to standing room only.

Almost impossible to see hiding back in the bush was a bear and her cubs (partly because the brush was dense but also because seeing through the crowd of people was rather challenging.

use your imagination a bit – she is there

we hiked out to Nugget Falls. I didn’t make it out last year because the trail was extremely rough and my back was just not up to it. This year it turns out that there has been major work done on the trail and you could make it out with a stroller or someone pushing your chair.

I also discovered that in video mode my camera didn’t switch from horizontal to vertical. I was going to just insert the file but discovered that at 23MEG it is to big to post directly and I just don’t want to deal with YouTube. Moving on, we hiked around out in the peninsula tip then came cross the shore on the way back. Lovely jay and hand held bit of iceberg completed our hike. The Glacier seemed notably smaller than last year.

After arriving back in town – I found that there was a second yarn store called Seaside Yarns down in one of the old hangers (as well as the one next to Changing Tides – the quilt store).

now – the rest of the pictures.

This sounds like a really lovely trip, and the photos are great.

    Is George enjoying, too?
