It took HOW long?

I had a much better and snappier title. I even wrote it down. Looking at it down – it is incomprehensible. Any one had an idea of what “skeeod” means

Anyway – I left the Eldest’s house at 0640 this morning to head to the SFVA for a dental appointment. It is 24 miles. Obviously, this counts as reasonably early by most standards. The Interstate was packed,  Merging was a challenge as was the first three miles. From there is was slow to the entry to the Bay Bridge Maze, And then it was forever. I don’t know why people insist on continually changing lanes. They don’t get through any faster, they increase the risk of fender benders and just irritate the hell out of everyone around them. Finally reaching the toll booths it was slow and steady across the bridge. The next mess occurred attempting to get off the freeway and onto the entrance for 101 north. Ok. Meanwhile, i am starting to be concerned.

For those who know me, you might just be aware that I do not like being late. At ALL.  I finally make it to the road along the south side of Golden Gate, then attempt to cut across. It is now after 0800 in the morning…..There are bicyclists and joggers spread out crossing the entrance such that it is a real challenge make a right turn into the park. Managing, it is then thru the park, up 42nd street and into the VA complex. I luck out and grab the last place in the nearest garage and dash for the main building and up the stairs.

Checking in at 0831, I feel like I have run a marathon. Essentially two hours for 24 miles and a 15 minute check up. I was back in the car and headed home by 0900.

Not being completely stupid, I took the northern route home, Golden Gate Bridge, Richmond Bridge & stayed on the freeway to Gilman St.

I am tired just writing this. I took 1st nap til about 1630, had supper, 2nd nap which is likely to turn into bedtime immediately after.

No stitching, reading or knitting was accomplished today.

About Holly

fiber person - knitter, spinner, weaver who spent 33 years being a military officer to fund the above. And home. And family. Sewing and quilting projects are also in the stash. After living again in Heidelberg after retiring (finally) from the U.S. Army May 2011, we moved to the US ~ Dec 2015. Something about being over 65 and access to health care. It also might have had to do with finding a buyer for our house. Allegedly this will provide me a home base in the same country as our four adult children, all of whom I adore, so that I can drive them totally insane. Considerations of time to knit down the stash…(right, and if you believe that…) and spin and .... There is now actually enough time to do a bit of consulting, editing. Even more amazing - we have only one household again. As long as everyone understands that I still, 40 years into our marriage, don't do kitchens or bathrooms. For that matter, not being a golden retriever, I don't do slippers or newspapers either. I don’t miss either the military or full-time clinical practice. Limiting my public health/travel med/consulting and lecturing to “when I feel like it” has let me happily spend my pension cruising, stash enhancing (oops), arguing with the DH about where we are going to travel next and book buying. Life is good!

I detest being late – and do not like having to rely on others to get me anywhere for that reason. Your traffic sounds horrid. This street has been wonderfully quiet – school holidays!
