It is a long hill

Measured either from Henry Street. Or, if I am being completely honest – Solano Ave a block from the BART overpass. In either case, I would up with an unplanned hike… I should have predicted the confusion. Avenue Yarns has an open knit gathering on Thursday evenings from 1700-1900. Ok. And the store closes right afterwards. George dropped me off with a promise to pick me up afterwards, then went on to a book signing on campus. He said it was 1800-1900.

See the challenge?  We finished at 1900 and the shop closed. I attempted calling, and sent and text before heading out on foot.  Up Solano Ave on foot. Checking maps now – it looks like only 2.2 miles with Apple & Google predicting about an hour due to the hill there continuing through a tunnel, walking along Henry which was when George called with a bijillion excuses about a late start and it taking time to get back to the car. I suggested that he just do his own thing since I was already heading up the hill. I also checked in with Noah and requested that, since he was walking home from work, that he wait for me at Eunice & Spruce (this is five or so blocks straight up, and a bit under ½ the elevation).

So there I am, waiting on the corner, and, not to my surprise, George drives up with Noah. And, since I was more than a little tired with a good amount of elevation to still conquer, I accepted the ride. Especially since this morning included an Odark30 drive into the SFVA, a fun time sitting in a dental chair for a crown prep, a COVID booster and not as bad as it could have been drive back.

On the crafting front – I have two of three skeins of yarn into a shawl for Miriam and am at 66% on a cross stitch present.

About Holly

fiber person - knitter, spinner, weaver who spent 33 years being a military officer to fund the above. And home. And family. Sewing and quilting projects are also in the stash. After living again in Heidelberg after retiring (finally) from the U.S. Army May 2011, we moved to the US ~ Dec 2015. Something about being over 65 and access to health care. It also might have had to do with finding a buyer for our house. Allegedly this will provide me a home base in the same country as our four adult children, all of whom I adore, so that I can drive them totally insane. Considerations of time to knit down the stash…(right, and if you believe that…) and spin and .... There is now actually enough time to do a bit of consulting, editing. Even more amazing - we have only one household again. As long as everyone understands that I still, 40 years into our marriage, don't do kitchens or bathrooms. For that matter, not being a golden retriever, I don't do slippers or newspapers either. I don’t miss either the military or full-time clinical practice. Limiting my public health/travel med/consulting and lecturing to “when I feel like it” has let me happily spend my pension cruising, stash enhancing (oops), arguing with the DH about where we are going to travel next and book buying. Life is good!
