Hatching

Like many others during the pandemic, I started watching various live feeds on YouTube. The natural disasters are pretty self evident. I never expected to (nor wanted to) have first hand and up close experience with a volcano. Iceland provided live feeds…

But what turned out to be both fascinating and educational were the various wildlife cameras run by Universities or non-profits, especially those related to birds of prey. Since then, I have tuned in to Cal’s Chanel on the Campanile Falcons each spring.

Annie is back again, this time with a younger male who has been named Archie. Four eggs were laid and there has been a banner about the Hatching Party on 24 April. Well, someone forgot to get the falcons to agree. When I came upstairs this morning (early, let us not forget the cat) and opened the laptop I started to hear bird noises. Yes, that particular channel is open in a tab. Taking a quick look, there were egg shell fragments in the nest and a tiny leg moving around underneath the current parent.

I think I put in the link to the live feed. If not, it is easy enough to find.

If you haven’t seen any of these channels before, they can be highly entertaining. Besides the falcons, there are a number of channels devoted to owls, eagles,

Otherwise, just assume that I am ignoring cleaning, doing some stitching and dealing with the cat’s prowling for food on a regular basis…..

About Holly

fiber person - knitter, spinner, weaver who spent 33 years being a military officer to fund the above. And home. And family. Sewing and quilting projects are also in the stash. After living again in Heidelberg after retiring (finally) from the U.S. Army May 2011, we moved to the US ~ Dec 2015. Something about being over 65 and access to health care. It also might have had to do with finding a buyer for our house. Allegedly this will provide me a home base in the same country as our four adult children, all of whom I adore, so that I can drive them totally insane. Considerations of time to knit down the stash…(right, and if you believe that…) and spin and .... There is now actually enough time to do a bit of consulting, editing. Even more amazing - we have only one household again. As long as everyone understands that I still, 40 years into our marriage, don't do kitchens or bathrooms. For that matter, not being a golden retriever, I don't do slippers or newspapers either. I don’t miss either the military or full-time clinical practice. Limiting my public health/travel med/consulting and lecturing to “when I feel like it” has let me happily spend my pension cruising, stash enhancing (oops), arguing with the DH about where we are going to travel next and book buying. Life is good!

One Response to Hatching

  1. Cat says:

The late Sue Nelson (XRX tech editor) sent a link to an eagle cam at one time. Margaret and the kids she taught found it fascinating.
On another topic – I hope Passover is peaceful where you are.
