half way home

and here I am sitting in the United Club Lounge, Hong Kong. Left Sydney without problems (once I could prove to their satisfaction that I had transportation back out of Schengen since I don’t have a residency visa anywhere…..). Lovely flight on Quantas complete with only a few and only for a short time, unhappy babies. Considering the large number of children on the flight, this group of parents had them under control.

It was once I arrived in Hong Kong that the fun began. Quantas can’t issue boarding cards for Lufthansa and besides, after I did the on-line check in, the system told me to pick up my boarding card at the airport. Said airport being Hong Kong.

Since Lufthansa doesn’t have dozens of flights out of here, obviously they are only going to have the transfer desk manned, oh lets say about 3-4 hours before the flight. This left me with a few hours to kill and no where to sit but the floor since once I found W1 which turned out to be miles and miles away from E1 where we came in… ok, so it wasn’t miles but it certainly turned out to be a good distance and I believe a completely different terminal. I certainly wasn’t going to take a chance on the gate vanishing on me. Or me getting confused. Or too many people getting in line ahead of me so I sat on the carpet with my backpack and iPad playing email and WhatsApp.

Exactly on time a young woman turned one of the blank overheads to Lufthansa. Too bad it was not the one in front of which I had been camped. Still, I wasn’t that far back in the line. It took almost no time to get checked in, hike another lifetime, past security (it was my tweezers that set them off this time) and land in the lounge.

Unlike the lounges in the states – this one actually has food. It has a lovely coffee machine currently on cleaning cycle and a full selection of alcohol, waters, beers, soda and juices. Now I just get to entertain myself for the next 90 minutes or until the battery dies on the computer. This is Hong Kong and guess which is the only adapter plug I don’t have in my kit?
