Hair ball

This post is not pretty. I do not recommend reading while eating. You have been warned.

I try to brush the cat everyday. He sheds. Animals shed, people shed. Fact of life. In reality, the only time you don’t shed is if you don’t have any hair. That leaves you down to the occasional newborn, the very very old and those under chemo.

The cat falls into none of those. He is just a furry beast who I try to brush everyday. He likes being brushed, that isn’t the question. It is more like he is under foot while I am in the kitchen and really don’t want floating hair while doing food prep.

This morning? I picked up “the glove”  and he came running. Noah had purchased a pair and gave me one. Onyx adores getting groomed with this glove and rubs up against it.  I spent a whole five minutes –

and wound up with this gross mat of hair. It is more an 0.5oz if that gives you any idea. Obviously, all that grooming is thirsty work –

About Holly

fiber person - knitter, spinner, weaver who spent 33 years being a military officer to fund the above. And home. And family. Sewing and quilting projects are also in the stash. After living again in Heidelberg after retiring (finally) from the U.S. Army May 2011, we moved to the US ~ Dec 2015. Something about being over 65 and access to health care. It also might have had to do with finding a buyer for our house. Allegedly this will provide me a home base in the same country as our four adult children, all of whom I adore, so that I can drive them totally insane. Considerations of time to knit down the stash…(right, and if you believe that…) and spin and .... There is now actually enough time to do a bit of consulting, editing. Even more amazing - we have only one household again. As long as everyone understands that I still, 40 years into our marriage, don't do kitchens or bathrooms. For that matter, not being a golden retriever, I don't do slippers or newspapers either. I don’t miss either the military or full-time clinical practice. Limiting my public health/travel med/consulting and lecturing to “when I feel like it” has let me happily spend my pension cruising, stash enhancing (oops), arguing with the DH about where we are going to travel next and book buying. Life is good!

Is it soft? I once spun a neighbor’s Malamute fur and knit her a hair scrunchy out of it.

Not too bad. And unlike dog, it doesn’t really smell very bad. If you want it ….

Our last cat loved a good brushing. We used a small bright pink Barbie toy brush someone had picked up somewhere. He knew the brush and would even push it towards me. It is the one use I have ever found for anything Barbie pink!
