Galveston’s Historical District
There are according to Wikipedia – six historial districts in Galveston. One is the Silk Stocking District along Rosenberg. I didn’t go deeper to find the others. Rather, I just wandered with the camera and took photos of those places which appealed to me.
Should I admit that I have always wanted an old 19th century house, as impractical as that might be. Especially in a place along the Gulf coast where you have your basic rain, wind and hurricanes. Never the less, I fell in love with a number of them. (Might I also note that housing prices here are less than 1/4th of what you find in silly places like San Francisco or Berkeley). Of course, a serious down side is that the nearest airport is Houston International home of the worst immigration processing in the world.
Back to the houses. I have just inserted them in Gallery format. The one that counts is at 1601 Ball Avenue. (Blue House). But all are interested. The small salt box is in contrast to the more expensive neighbors.
Galveston was wiped off the map by a hurricane about a hundred years ago. When I was 16 we drove out there to visit old friends who had moved there–a beautiful old town. Glad you got to see it.
