Fourth in a Row

And ….. the majority of the day spent stitching and relaxing.  This is a sea day in case you hadn’t guessed.

We ended the day by using my second specialty restaurant meal voucher at Cagney’s which is the steakhouse on this ship.

A side mention – benefits in loyalty programs are remarkably different across cruise lines. I am most familiar with Royal, Celebrity, NCL & Windstar since those are the lines which I have frequented the most. As one would expect, the amount of points needed for various levels has increased on some lines over the years or the method of obtaining status has changed as various lines have updated their programs.  Up front – there are some things which I don’t find relevant – like shopping or spa discounts. Free beverage coupons such as Royal or Celebrity – fine with me since they can be used on the non-alcoholic beverages. Windstar has those free anyone to include all the coffee & tea fancy stuff. NCL includes a bottle of wine with a dinner voucher.  Free laundry is common, some lines only offer it on cruises longer than 5 days and once per cruise. Others, like Windstar, if you qualify you can send in as much and as often as you like.

What counts the highest for me? Quiet lounge access. I don’t care about snacks, I just want somewhere that isn’t crowded. Free Wifi. Yes please. Laundry on long trips. And COFFEE! access to lattes please. Royal has self service machines in the Diamond & Suite Lounges. Windstar – included for everyone. NCL? Machine in the Solo Lounge. Otherwise $-$$.

Each line has it’s own +/-.

About Holly

fiber person - knitter, spinner, weaver who spent 33 years being a military officer to fund the above. And home. And family. Sewing and quilting projects are also in the stash. After living again in Heidelberg after retiring (finally) from the U.S. Army May 2011, we moved to the US ~ Dec 2015. Something about being over 65 and access to health care. It also might have had to do with finding a buyer for our house. Allegedly this will provide me a home base in the same country as our four adult children, all of whom I adore, so that I can drive them totally insane. Considerations of time to knit down the stash…(right, and if you believe that…) and spin and .... There is now actually enough time to do a bit of consulting, editing. Even more amazing - we have only one household again. As long as everyone understands that I still, 40 years into our marriage, don't do kitchens or bathrooms. For that matter, not being a golden retriever, I don't do slippers or newspapers either. I don’t miss either the military or full-time clinical practice. Limiting my public health/travel med/consulting and lecturing to “when I feel like it” has let me happily spend my pension cruising, stash enhancing (oops), arguing with the DH about where we are going to travel next and book buying. Life is good!

One Response to Fourth in a Row

one thing I loved about Celebrity is the premium drink package ! I spent lot of time at Cafe Al Bacio getting my wonderful lattes <3 ! also, the Michael's Club on Infinity was nice. quiet and cosy, a great coffee machine and little nibbles. we spent a lot of time there, also to meet up with a lovely Pinnacle couple from Sweden. we met them before but didn't get to know them as much as we did this cruise.
