For Me!

After doing live action role playing exams all morning (moulaged volunteers acting as the “accident victims”), I arrived home to a box sitting on the dining room table.

For me – from someone in Berlin. I didn’t order anything from Berlin.

It came in yesterday, the Slugs signed for it and dropped in on the window sill. Today one of them just happened to notice it still sitting there. Figuring if they did not put it on the table today I was never going to see it.

It was my Sock-a-poolza package – taking over a week to travel what is an 8 hour journey. Go figure, I don’t hold stock in DHL or any of the other companies.

See!

and in it – all wrapped up (now, why didn’t I get it together and do wrapping paper and ribbons? Is it because I make sure we have supplies for birthdays – but have a tendency to hand over presents in plastic bags?)

which became –

Isn’t that package wonderful? And socks! Lace socks in my favorite red. Just for me. The pattern is Elfine, which was on my list but haven’t had a chance to try. The sheep is classic Nicki now has a home hanging on the distaff of my spinning wheel. That extra ball of yarn there is a terrific Wollmeise red.

It wasn’t until my socks arrived from Fabienne that I was willing to admit how wonderful it is to have someone knit socks for me. I knit lots of socks, I knit for family and friends. But this is the first time in almost 10 years that someone else has knit for me.

And they are really nice. And comfortable. And red. Did I mention that I really like red?

About Holly

fiber person - knitter, spinner, weaver who spent 33 years being a military officer to fund the above. And home. And family. Sewing and quilting projects are also in the stash. After living again in Heidelberg after retiring (finally) from the U.S. Army May 2011, we moved to the US ~ Dec 2015. Something about being over 65 and access to health care. It also might have had to do with finding a buyer for our house. Allegedly this will provide me a home base in the same country as our four adult children, all of whom I adore, so that I can drive them totally insane. Considerations of time to knit down the stash…(right, and if you believe that…) and spin and .... There is now actually enough time to do a bit of consulting, editing. Even more amazing - we have only one household again. As long as everyone understands that I still, 40 years into our marriage, don't do kitchens or bathrooms. For that matter, not being a golden retriever, I don't do slippers or newspapers either. I don’t miss either the military or full-time clinical practice. Limiting my public health/travel med/consulting and lecturing to “when I feel like it” has let me happily spend my pension cruising, stash enhancing (oops), arguing with the DH about where we are going to travel next and book buying. Life is good!

i am glad you like them! i had a tough time figuring out something that would be unique for you because you knit so many pairs of socks in the last few months. i’m glad i went with red, it’s hard to read your color pref’s from your blog as you knit for others often! cheers, fbz
