Flamingos

Since I haven’t added to our collection of lawn flamingos in months, maybe a year I think my husband was hoping we were done with the flamingos. They are perhaps the longest running joke in the family (going on 46 years this September). But no, I don’t think he can be that lucky.

We have a serious issue with our mailbox. It isn’t that old. Perhaps 8 years, maybe a bit longer? But the front drop down door comes off all the time and I am getting sick of it. It needs to be replaced with something that works. It also would be smarter to get something that might just hold a slightly larger envelope or package so that things aren’t crammed in or literally bent out of shape.  So at dinner tonight I mentioned perhaps getting a flamingo mailbox. I will have to give to George, he didn’t lose it. Not even when Dani started looking for examples on line and found some pretty outrageous options.

Among others, there is a woodworker in Florida who does all sort of custom mailboxes. And yes, it is legal, as long as the box is 1) accessible 2) meets the regs for size, shape and has that flag thing -which no one uses. In fact, I call that the “steal the contents” flag. Anyway. there is a listing on that site for a flamingo mailbox. .. and if that doesn’t work, I bet I could talk George into a Golden Bear as that is the mascot for Cal…..

On the stitching front, I managed a bit more today – the ghost is done. I am not happy with how it looks but not interested in ripping it out and doing a chunk of it over,

and Ms Yellow Mushroom is finally up to 65%. I would really, really like her finishing this month but doubt it will happen

About Holly

fiber person - knitter, spinner, weaver who spent 33 years being a military officer to fund the above. And home. And family. Sewing and quilting projects are also in the stash. After living again in Heidelberg after retiring (finally) from the U.S. Army May 2011, we moved to the US ~ Dec 2015. Something about being over 65 and access to health care. It also might have had to do with finding a buyer for our house. Allegedly this will provide me a home base in the same country as our four adult children, all of whom I adore, so that I can drive them totally insane. Considerations of time to knit down the stash…(right, and if you believe that…) and spin and .... There is now actually enough time to do a bit of consulting, editing. Even more amazing - we have only one household again. As long as everyone understands that I still, 40 years into our marriage, don't do kitchens or bathrooms. For that matter, not being a golden retriever, I don't do slippers or newspapers either. I don’t miss either the military or full-time clinical practice. Limiting my public health/travel med/consulting and lecturing to “when I feel like it” has let me happily spend my pension cruising, stash enhancing (oops), arguing with the DH about where we are going to travel next and book buying. Life is good!
