Flamboyance

of Flamingos according to a lovely, and slightly sarcastic reference that I found. Apparently the simple word of “flock” just wouldn’t do for something that is so obviously eye catchings. After all, they aren’t LBJs (little brown jobs in birder parlance) or high flying scolders/mockers like ravens and crows. They are that fun, bright pink color that comes from their diet.

I drifted over to Wiki to learn that there are six extant species of flamingo. The funny looking, long-legged birds really aren’t related to any other bird except maybe the grebe. They are scattered through out the world – from Africa to India, to South America, Asia, the Caribbean + Florida. (well, there are some that consider Florida it’s own separate world). Looking at the list, I think I have actually seen four/six – not the Andean or the James.

If you wonder why I am nattering on about Flamingos – just look back at the last few posts and my current entertainment.

Otherwise, I would need to focus on getting up at 0500 to drive into the city for George’s 0730 appointment (everything is going well), returning through much less traffic followed by a trip to the pharmacy, the grocery store, a couple of load of clothes, emptying the dishwasher, lunch, taking out boxes, rescuing the garbage cans …. and so it goes.

It is barely 1430 and I am tired. If I still didn’t have a list of chores, I might just take a nap…

oh – the boys are back…

About Holly

fiber person - knitter, spinner, weaver who spent 33 years being a military officer to fund the above. And home. And family. Sewing and quilting projects are also in the stash. After living again in Heidelberg after retiring (finally) from the U.S. Army May 2011, we moved to the US ~ Dec 2015. Something about being over 65 and access to health care. It also might have had to do with finding a buyer for our house. Allegedly this will provide me a home base in the same country as our four adult children, all of whom I adore, so that I can drive them totally insane. Considerations of time to knit down the stash…(right, and if you believe that…) and spin and .... There is now actually enough time to do a bit of consulting, editing. Even more amazing - we have only one household again. As long as everyone understands that I still, 40 years into our marriage, don't do kitchens or bathrooms. For that matter, not being a golden retriever, I don't do slippers or newspapers either. I don’t miss either the military or full-time clinical practice. Limiting my public health/travel med/consulting and lecturing to “when I feel like it” has let me happily spend my pension cruising, stash enhancing (oops), arguing with the DH about where we are going to travel next and book buying. Life is good!

I need to remember to come to the blog more often….somehow I missed all the flamingo chatter….possible that two weeks on the road followed by hitting the ground running on our return had something to do with that? Little boy turned two…less than 48 hours later his sister made her debut appearance….at 0’dark-thirty, of course, just to make sure we were all equally exhausted. ?

I have two like that – born two years and one day apart. Congrats on the grandkids!

Time on traveling is enough to disrupt anyone!

(and I have been a bit lax about sending out the mailing list….)

Kinda feel like our lives are on a parallel course, lol. The difference is at 75 (76 next month) I hav to take the nap because I am collapsing by 1330! I crash a whole hour before you. I’m so glad George is doing better, how is his spirits, hopefully better since he is home.

boring can be a good thing.

In Athens today. Just doing hop on/off bus.

    Split was wonderful.

    • Holly says:

Jealous, I so miss ships and traveling.

Split? Haven’t been there since the 90s – and that was a short visit via a chopper.

  5. Pat says:

I’m chronically tired also, and yes, the mind wanders and gets distracted. And the mind NEEDS distraction.

    • Holly says:

Right now I would be up for fewer distractions – still have those two papers hanging over my head….
