Since we had the morning free, we wandered around downtown Fairbanks. Ice Museum (and sponsor of the International Ice Carving Championships, a wander by the Yukon Quest HQ (no this is not the Iditarod) and a few local monuments. I didn’t figure out that there was a good yarn shop out near the University till it was too late to hike out.

No, the Yukon Quest is not the Iditarod. It is longer, tougher and more authentic. You gain a whole new respect for mail carriers when you see those mushers taking off at 30 below zero!
Sounds and looks wonderful. If you REALLY want a Bullwinkle, get hold of Carol over in North Pole, she’ll let you have one..oh wait, sorry, the police shot the poor thing after it totaled her RAV SUV…
You will also meet a number of Army folks. Ft Wainwright is just at the edge of town.
