Earthquake

for those who read this by email rather than here on the blog – yes, we had an earthquake at some obscene time in the middle of the night. The epicenter was less than 3 miles from us. The original 4.5 was downgraded to 4.3. Origin point has been estimated to be at  37.863°N 122.254°W and a depth of 7.6 km – time of 02:56:12 (UTC-07:00). Yawn….

If you aren’t familiar with it – the US Geological Survey apparently has been spared major cuts to this point and, in cooperation with scientific organizations around the world, keeps a running list, plus maps of where all occurred. If you aren’t familiar with their website, it is here. As of 1300 this afternoon, 353 helpful citizen have filled out shake questionnaires.

Of course, George’s phone, with the earthquake alert, went off after the bed quit shaking. The cats – both ours and Noah’s – were NOT happy.

This was not exactly what I had planned for my first night back in my own bed. Coffee was essential for sanity this morning.

About Holly

fiber person - knitter, spinner, weaver who spent 33 years being a military officer to fund the above. And home. And family. Sewing and quilting projects are also in the stash. After living again in Heidelberg after retiring (finally) from the U.S. Army May 2011, we moved to the US ~ Dec 2015. Something about being over 65 and access to health care. It also might have had to do with finding a buyer for our house. Allegedly this will provide me a home base in the same country as our four adult children, all of whom I adore, so that I can drive them totally insane. Considerations of time to knit down the stash…(right, and if you believe that…) and spin and .... There is now actually enough time to do a bit of consulting, editing. Even more amazing - we have only one household again. As long as everyone understands that I still, 40 years into our marriage, don't do kitchens or bathrooms. For that matter, not being a golden retriever, I don't do slippers or newspapers either. I don’t miss either the military or full-time clinical practice. Limiting my public health/travel med/consulting and lecturing to “when I feel like it” has let me happily spend my pension cruising, stash enhancing (oops), arguing with the DH about where we are going to travel next and book buying. Life is good!

Glad you’re only shaken and not stirred. (Sorry, couldn’t resist.) Hopefully, no real damage done. What a way to start 5786!

Just glad to be only shaken. No damage. But a good reminder here to make sure things are safely stored.
