Day 5 – Pineapple Dinner

Oops – I mean Pinnacle.

Whatever.

All cruise lines, just like hotel chains and airlines, seem to have developed various loyalty programs over the years.  Every so often they get revised. The line I am currently on = Royal Caribbean – did their last major changes in 2013. There have been various rumors, threats, and discussions since then but nothing so far as come of it.  Their top tier is still Pinnacle which is achieved with 700 cruise nights…

Celebrity did a major change ~ 2015 which involved essentially buying your way to status (sliding scale of points which essentially meant that you could make status quickly in expensive suites while never ever getting there if you cruised in inside or outside cabins.

Norwegian put their changes into effect in the last few years – and with the exception of adding in a tier – their levels seem to line up pretty much with Royal’s.  As far as benefits – free wifi rates pretty high for me (Royal) but the free specialty restaurant  meals (Norwegian) are  also nice. Free laundry benefits are the same with both lines.

Anyway – The Quantum decided to treat the 39 Pinnacles on board to a lovely sit-down dinner. The company was good, the food was excellent. It seems that no one else at the table had had this experience before. I know that this particular event was pretty common on smaller ship transatlantic cruises and I remember same on the Explorer as well…

Otherwise – this was a lovely sea day –

the Headless Horseman section on the Haunted Library is complete.

and there is some of the strangest “art” you can imagine on this ship (forward stairwell ~ Deck 12?)

We are falling back yet another hour tonight – so Saturday will be GMT- 09.

About Holly

fiber person - knitter, spinner, weaver who spent 33 years being a military officer to fund the above. And home. And family. Sewing and quilting projects are also in the stash. After living again in Heidelberg after retiring (finally) from the U.S. Army May 2011, we moved to the US ~ Dec 2015. Something about being over 65 and access to health care. It also might have had to do with finding a buyer for our house. Allegedly this will provide me a home base in the same country as our four adult children, all of whom I adore, so that I can drive them totally insane. Considerations of time to knit down the stash…(right, and if you believe that…) and spin and .... There is now actually enough time to do a bit of consulting, editing. Even more amazing - we have only one household again. As long as everyone understands that I still, 40 years into our marriage, don't do kitchens or bathrooms. For that matter, not being a golden retriever, I don't do slippers or newspapers either. I don’t miss either the military or full-time clinical practice. Limiting my public health/travel med/consulting and lecturing to “when I feel like it” has let me happily spend my pension cruising, stash enhancing (oops), arguing with the DH about where we are going to travel next and book buying. Life is good!

I think I still have a $10 voucher for the return journey for the trip I did in 1972 P&O line. I wonder if they would honour it? 🙂
