Day 2/95

So this is going to be around the world in 95 days with a number of stops in various cities, countries and taking a number of different modes of transportation. I started yesterday in Berkeley by car to Rockridge BART Station and on from there to the airport.

Car -> BART -> airplane (SFO-FRA) -> foot & skytrain -> airplane (in a few minutes SFO-DEL) where I arrive at 0130 in the morning (can you tell that I am ever so thrilled about the arrival time?).

I was silly enough to follow the direction signs when exiting the plane in Z (at the end of the terminal of course) to get to Concourse C. Frankly, it would have been faster just to use the short cut between terminals, but no – the new directions have you hiking out of Z, all the way to a choice between baggage claim and the rest of the airport and around and past a number of choices to arrive at the Skytrain followed by a 15 second ride to Terminals B/C…. and back through security and a quick document check. At least I have the lounge in which I can drink more coffee prior to my next flight.

I am thinking supper followed by a nap. It looks like I am facing another 5.5 hours time zone change and 10*C on arrival (with highs ~ 25*C during the day). Time to scramble the clothing choices again…..

(BTW – Shana’s cats have been attempting to kill that large rubber duck…..

About Holly

fiber person - knitter, spinner, weaver who spent 33 years being a military officer to fund the above. And home. And family. Sewing and quilting projects are also in the stash. After living again in Heidelberg after retiring (finally) from the U.S. Army May 2011, we moved to the US ~ Dec 2015. Something about being over 65 and access to health care. It also might have had to do with finding a buyer for our house. Allegedly this will provide me a home base in the same country as our four adult children, all of whom I adore, so that I can drive them totally insane. Considerations of time to knit down the stash…(right, and if you believe that…) and spin and .... There is now actually enough time to do a bit of consulting, editing. Even more amazing - we have only one household again. As long as everyone understands that I still, 40 years into our marriage, don't do kitchens or bathrooms. For that matter, not being a golden retriever, I don't do slippers or newspapers either. I don’t miss either the military or full-time clinical practice. Limiting my public health/travel med/consulting and lecturing to “when I feel like it” has let me happily spend my pension cruising, stash enhancing (oops), arguing with the DH about where we are going to travel next and book buying. Life is good!

Guffawing at the attempted rubber-duckicide. Meantime, safe travels!

    Loved the huge rubber duck!

Around the world in 95 days? Whew. . . ! Does that include Australia? I recall that you did mention that you would be here a couple of times this year?

Good luck and stay safe – !

  3. Stu says:

Sounds like a good time. Currently in Florence too windy to dock at Rome yesterday

  4. RG says:

Take lots of pics and post them. I need my vicarious travel fun.

My daughter’s inlaws were on that Royal Caribbean ship that encountered the hurricane. They flew in from MN to catch their ship at Bayonne. We had dinner with them the night before. I told Shel that I was mighty jealous of their cruise. Now I’m not jealous any more. They take lots of cruises, but I bet this was the only one that was awful.

I have grown to see naps as the emotional equivalent of a Hershey kiss.
Cats stalking a rubber duck is a cute image.

  6. Dawn says:

A little slow. You can make it around the world in 80 days if you use a balloon.

I hope that your seminar is very interesting. Enjoy the rest of your travels as well.

    Cheers!

Now THAT gave us a good laugh- his Mom’s cats have given us plenty of visual
input to imagine cat vs. rubber ducky….

  8. Mark says:
