Call-O-Ween

You have to hand it to them. Nothing like taking advantage of a chance to use a horrible pun or co-opt a holiday that really does not have the same kind of ownership that other holidays have..

In this case, Cal (University of California,  Berkeley to the rest of the world) had signs up on campus plus on the electronic boards of Haas Pavilion this evening for the Exhibition Game against the Vanguard Lions. For most of us not familiar with much of the sports re-alignment that happened this season – The Vanguards are out of Vanguard University, Costa Mesa, CA. They are in the PACWEST which now has 14 teams. Looking at the list, school size averages out to about 4k and all seem to be one flavor or another of Christianity except for U of Hawaii – Hilo.

Anyway, there were costumes in the crowd & most definitely in the Straw Hat Band.

In anywise, other than too many turnovers, Cal overwhelmed the visitors.

But there was a lot of enthusiasm. I just wish there had been more fans in attendance. The game was free, they handed out candy to the kids and had a costume parade at half-time. But it is Halloween and a lot of kids would have rather been out getting large amounts of candy. Or, as in the case of Cal Students, this week is mid-terms.

I spent my stitching time yesterday – that which wasn’t involved in errands, working on 324. Yes, I know that mentioning stitching all the time is really boring for various of my friends who are Veterans, but hey, that is what I am doing… This particular pattern comes from WorksbyABC

Anyway – I stitched another 24 motifs (more than 1000 stitches). It is actually a reasonable project for me to focus on. Since each color (324 of them) is used once and only once, kitting it up for traveling is completely out of the question. Total is 6871/14751. So obviously a ways to go.

ah, too tired after the game. Time for a nap. Or computer games. It could go either way….

About Holly

fiber person - knitter, spinner, weaver who spent 33 years being a military officer to fund the above. And home. And family. Sewing and quilting projects are also in the stash. After living again in Heidelberg after retiring (finally) from the U.S. Army May 2011, we moved to the US ~ Dec 2015. Something about being over 65 and access to health care. It also might have had to do with finding a buyer for our house. Allegedly this will provide me a home base in the same country as our four adult children, all of whom I adore, so that I can drive them totally insane. Considerations of time to knit down the stash…(right, and if you believe that…) and spin and .... There is now actually enough time to do a bit of consulting, editing. Even more amazing - we have only one household again. As long as everyone understands that I still, 40 years into our marriage, don't do kitchens or bathrooms. For that matter, not being a golden retriever, I don't do slippers or newspapers either. I don’t miss either the military or full-time clinical practice. Limiting my public health/travel med/consulting and lecturing to “when I feel like it” has let me happily spend my pension cruising, stash enhancing (oops), arguing with the DH about where we are going to travel next and book buying. Life is good!
