Best Stop Sign ever

now – where did I put the notes I wrote while in San  Rafael?  No clue, thought I saved it in notes or email, but then my phone was down to essentially no battery so it could have been completely lost…

Ok – Best stop sign ever. I was in San Rafael. It isn’t all that far from either Berkeley or El Sobrante but since going across the Richmond Bridge is involved, it feels a lot further than it really is.  Of note, if you are into bridges – go see the Wiki article on the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge, Seme might want to put the town names in the other direction, but I am in the East Bay rathe than Marin County – so of course “Richmond” comes first in the name.

The bridge – 5.5 miles long in old money has a bike lane on the  upper level of the bridge on the northern side. I don’t think I have even not seen bikers and more than the occasional foot traveler happily striding along. For the most part, the bridge is too high for fishing, so that is something you might see only within a few hundred meters of the west end of the bridge.

But anyway – back to the stop sign. I wish we had a number these here in Berkeley.

This one in San Rafael is right at the city offices and courthouse, It has a solar collector at the top. See those red dots on the edges? Those are small light bulbs. They blink on and off, making the sign both attention getting and extremely visible even in bad weather.  The intersection is a T junction which, I think, is why the “all way stop” where my mind keeps wanting to put in the standard “all stop” or
“four way stop”

In any case both the drive up and back were problem free. My friends who stayed with us over the weekend successfully navigated BART, SFO, and the rest to head back home to Australia and I am ready for sleep.

About Holly

fiber person - knitter, spinner, weaver who spent 33 years being a military officer to fund the above. And home. And family. Sewing and quilting projects are also in the stash. After living again in Heidelberg after retiring (finally) from the U.S. Army May 2011, we moved to the US ~ Dec 2015. Something about being over 65 and access to health care. It also might have had to do with finding a buyer for our house. Allegedly this will provide me a home base in the same country as our four adult children, all of whom I adore, so that I can drive them totally insane. Considerations of time to knit down the stash…(right, and if you believe that…) and spin and .... There is now actually enough time to do a bit of consulting, editing. Even more amazing - we have only one household again. As long as everyone understands that I still, 40 years into our marriage, don't do kitchens or bathrooms. For that matter, not being a golden retriever, I don't do slippers or newspapers either. I don’t miss either the military or full-time clinical practice. Limiting my public health/travel med/consulting and lecturing to “when I feel like it” has let me happily spend my pension cruising, stash enhancing (oops), arguing with the DH about where we are going to travel next and book buying. Life is good!
