Barbados

While it seems that everyone else on this ship is either eating, laying in the sun or attempting to use the icicle network in the cruise terminal I thought I would jot off this short note to you.

Sometimes these islands start to blur together. I never realized it more strongly than this morning when the bus I was on turned the corner headed to a catamaran. I recognized the  gate, the shops on the corner and the long hike into town which I have made at least once in the past. But this morning I was trading my independence for sea turtles.  The beach break afterwards was ok, but nothing major, I was just looking forward to sailing and snorkeling.

Leaving the harbor, it was about 30 minutes to the area where the turtles were usually found. Just like in Bora Bora, one of the reasons that they are found might just have to do with someone feeding them. Unlike in the Pacific – this was not shallow water but about 10 meters deep. Floatation vests were mandatory and most of the other snorkelers were decent. Outside of the idiot with the GoPro on a stick who somehow couldn’t avoid whacking others on a regular basis.

Besides the turtles which we had come to see, there were a number of tropical fish.

And expensive mansions on the shore, and the young, happy and probably wealthy on paddle boards, jet skis and a new item which is a paddleboard with a tiny jetski motor. Ridden standing up just like a surfboard/paddleboard and holding on only by a rope, at least there is a deadman switch. So there you have it – a new version of dope on a rope.
