back to sea

Today is a simple sea day. Or it would be if most of the people around me didn’t think that the seas were rough. Having survived rough seas on much smaller ships, I don’t consider the occasional shudder much of anything to worry about.

So, what should be a quiet day by myself to listen to audio books, stitch and nap. As far as the audiobooks, head phones are the absolute only way to go, This is pretty much the same experience I had on this ship last December. People walking up to me, starting to talk, and then getting irritated when I signal them to wait for me to stop the book and take off my headphones.

Perhaps this is a trained pattern from their house – ignoring the fact that another person may be obviously engaged in an activity?

Others have been lovely – and I have heard about stitching inherited from family members, sweaters and afghans which have been knit or crocheted, quilting & sewing picked up again as crafts during the pandemic.

Otherwise, we hit the steak house for supper on my second coupon, my laundry came back and I need to have a discussion (again) with USAA about why they have once again blocked my credit card. I can’t call them right now, they no longer do email. and it is driving me nuts…. Yes, it is possible to be in one area of the world and still shop on line for a present. And both the present and the store can be in a completely different area of the world…

About Holly

fiber person - knitter, spinner, weaver who spent 33 years being a military officer to fund the above. And home. And family. Sewing and quilting projects are also in the stash. After living again in Heidelberg after retiring (finally) from the U.S. Army May 2011, we moved to the US ~ Dec 2015. Something about being over 65 and access to health care. It also might have had to do with finding a buyer for our house. Allegedly this will provide me a home base in the same country as our four adult children, all of whom I adore, so that I can drive them totally insane. Considerations of time to knit down the stash…(right, and if you believe that…) and spin and .... There is now actually enough time to do a bit of consulting, editing. Even more amazing - we have only one household again. As long as everyone understands that I still, 40 years into our marriage, don't do kitchens or bathrooms. For that matter, not being a golden retriever, I don't do slippers or newspapers either. I don’t miss either the military or full-time clinical practice. Limiting my public health/travel med/consulting and lecturing to “when I feel like it” has let me happily spend my pension cruising, stash enhancing (oops), arguing with the DH about where we are going to travel next and book buying. Life is good!
