and scarves (or shawls)

I started this shawl on the last cruise out of regular weight Crazy Zauberball. The original pattern was from Knitscene. I liked the way it looked. Then I read the directions. I am not going to do a shawl in brioche. I like to finish things in a life time.

So time to change a few things. There are two balls of yarn of the same yarn started at different points. One yarn is providing a garter ridge. The other yarn is alternating a knit row and a purl row. The end result is a 6 row repeat (skipping the increases) of Knit A, Knit A, Knit B, Knit A Knit A, Purl B.

From here, I am probably going to add a wing to each side (a la Double Refraction) only continuing the same six row pattern. Since I already have a few hundred stitches to deal with – it is not going to be small.

Not being really enthusiastic right now – I started Trillian – one of Martina Behm’s patterns. Simple scarf with a bit of lace on one edge. Easy knitting, it only took a couple of days.

Up close (obviously needs bath and blocking) you can see the strips worked out well in this self striping yarn.

I skipped the lace on the final (increase) edge. Didn’t see the point and it obviously is not going to look the same as the other edge even when blocked. With just the one edge, anyone could wear it. Decorate two edges? Most guys would never, ever touch it.

About Holly

fiber person - knitter, spinner, weaver who spent 33 years being a military officer to fund the above. And home. And family. Sewing and quilting projects are also in the stash. After living again in Heidelberg after retiring (finally) from the U.S. Army May 2011, we moved to the US ~ Dec 2015. Something about being over 65 and access to health care. It also might have had to do with finding a buyer for our house. Allegedly this will provide me a home base in the same country as our four adult children, all of whom I adore, so that I can drive them totally insane. Considerations of time to knit down the stash…(right, and if you believe that…) and spin and .... There is now actually enough time to do a bit of consulting, editing. Even more amazing - we have only one household again. As long as everyone understands that I still, 40 years into our marriage, don't do kitchens or bathrooms. For that matter, not being a golden retriever, I don't do slippers or newspapers either. I don’t miss either the military or full-time clinical practice. Limiting my public health/travel med/consulting and lecturing to “when I feel like it” has let me happily spend my pension cruising, stash enhancing (oops), arguing with the DH about where we are going to travel next and book buying. Life is good!
