An unexpected dinner out

I had planned on finishing a number of cross stitches yesterday, then put it off till today. And then cancelled tht in favor of stitching for the morning.

Today was the last ACC season women’s basketball game as well as the last home game of the season. Traditionally on that last Sunday game, all the seniors are recognized which happened right before the game.  The team won by a significant margin against the Miami Hurricanes.

It was on the way home from the game when George mentioned that there was a dinner tonight at Noodles Fresh for the incoming Taiwanese participants in Cal’s School of Public Health’s Mentorship/Incubator type 3 month program. George has been actively involved in supporting the program for several years. I was welcome to come along.

It actually was a tough decision…stitch in peace and quiet?  Go join “meet & greet dinner” without knowing anyone?  As a general rule, even before the pandemic I avoided crowds when I didn’t know anyone. Now? Even more so. OTOH – dinner at a good restaurant where (rather than having to deal with the menu) everything was going to be served family style at one huge table.

The food was most excellent, and the people were interesting. I had a chance to talk to more than one of the young entrepreneurs who are using this chance to learn how to take their idea from science into reality including business plans, investor presentations, etc. They will be here for about 90 days.  And at minimum, we will have them over for dinner, but in groups of 6, not 18 at a time. I am thinking May, the weather will be nice,,,,

About Holly

fiber person - knitter, spinner, weaver who spent 33 years being a military officer to fund the above. And home. And family. Sewing and quilting projects are also in the stash. After living again in Heidelberg after retiring (finally) from the U.S. Army May 2011, we moved to the US ~ Dec 2015. Something about being over 65 and access to health care. It also might have had to do with finding a buyer for our house. Allegedly this will provide me a home base in the same country as our four adult children, all of whom I adore, so that I can drive them totally insane. Considerations of time to knit down the stash…(right, and if you believe that…) and spin and .... There is now actually enough time to do a bit of consulting, editing. Even more amazing - we have only one household again. As long as everyone understands that I still, 40 years into our marriage, don't do kitchens or bathrooms. For that matter, not being a golden retriever, I don't do slippers or newspapers either. I don’t miss either the military or full-time clinical practice. Limiting my public health/travel med/consulting and lecturing to “when I feel like it” has let me happily spend my pension cruising, stash enhancing (oops), arguing with the DH about where we are going to travel next and book buying. Life is good!
