Afternoon Tea

It is Saturday, we are in Victoria, British Columbia. It isn’t a bad walk from the Ogden Point Cruise Ship Terminal to the center portion of the city, at least the tourist, museum, and government building portion.  I was here last year, just about the same time of year on the Quantum OTS. (So if you want pictures of a few of the major sites – look here since I didn’t see the need to take the photos again…).

Today my wander was brisk and purposeful – I went back to the needlework shop followed by a search for and through a couple of Starbucks with no lunch on the Canada slender thermos. While I was at it – I went through the Maritime Museum of British Columbia which had moved to a new spot in the last couple of years. I missed it on my last trip. It is small and mostly has models the “newer” of which came from the shipping lines as they took the actual ships out of service in the 1970s.

There is also The Royal Museum of British Columbia complete with IMAX theater. (you can also get a feel for it on Wiki. I went through the museum shop and then mentally flipped a coin – Museum or Tea?  Considering it was now about 1300, my decision was easy. Rather than go to one of the famous places in my less that upscale clothing choices for the day – I went into the Pendray Tea House located in a classic Victorian era building and had a lovely afternoon tea.

there is the tea.

the tray of goodies including small sandwiches, scones, and pastries.

and finished with this little treat.

Rather than stay on the main road, I walked through residential neighborhoods with streets named for provinces, cities, rivers, and lakes.

We sailed promptly at 1700 and I spent a quiet evening.

About Holly

fiber person - knitter, spinner, weaver who spent 33 years being a military officer to fund the above. And home. And family. Sewing and quilting projects are also in the stash. After living again in Heidelberg after retiring (finally) from the U.S. Army May 2011, we moved to the US ~ Dec 2015. Something about being over 65 and access to health care. It also might have had to do with finding a buyer for our house. Allegedly this will provide me a home base in the same country as our four adult children, all of whom I adore, so that I can drive them totally insane. Considerations of time to knit down the stash…(right, and if you believe that…) and spin and .... There is now actually enough time to do a bit of consulting, editing. Even more amazing - we have only one household again. As long as everyone understands that I still, 40 years into our marriage, don't do kitchens or bathrooms. For that matter, not being a golden retriever, I don't do slippers or newspapers either. I don’t miss either the military or full-time clinical practice. Limiting my public health/travel med/consulting and lecturing to “when I feel like it” has let me happily spend my pension cruising, stash enhancing (oops), arguing with the DH about where we are going to travel next and book buying. Life is good!
