A day on the balcony

The truth is that I only sort of am tracking what the particular day of the week might just happen to be. If I get really confused – I can always go to one of the elevators and look – they have an inset that gets changed every night so that you can look at the floor tile and be told the day. Not the date, mind you but the day.

Ok – so it is Sunday with an attempt on the calendar to Zoom chat with two friends/colleagues in the UK. Scotland and Wales to be specific. Since the ship did the final clock turn back for now – I am at GMT -10. Yes, three hours back from California since I am remembering that Hawaii doesn’t bother with daylight savings time. The very nice 1630 in the afternoon for the British Isles was 0830 (i.e. coffee time) when home. Not a problem. 0530 now here? I went on an extremely early coffee hunt just to safe side it.

We discovered that 1) audio was fine. 2) the bandwidth in active video mode from the ship was not so fine. 3) I could watch and talk, but they couldn’t see me if I didn’t want to deal continually with dropped carrier. All in all, it worked well enough. Of note – zoom In receive mode has been fine for most of the trip so keeping up on broadcast continuing education – hasn’t been a problem.

Other than a trip to dinner and a few “walk of the stairs” I spent almost the whole day relaxing on my balcony. The sun was out, altho not directly on me. Easy access to stitching supplies, lovely weather and I didn’t have to wear headphones while listening to audio books… All good!

First. – the weird –

which is a bas relief of some kind of yellow plastic car with the “driver’s area” being a short film clip of some dude attempting to drive. Deck 4 near the Theater.

Stitching – two projects today – Halloween Countdown

which involved more lettering at the top, part of the frame and starting a catch-up on some of the daily entries.

the second – start on the frame for a mini-ghost haunting. This is the only one of my current patters which doesn’t load in PatternKeeper. The very nice concierge in the lounge printed the four main pages for me. I really, really, really don’t like working on hard copy…

ARGH!!! apparently there are STILL too many people doing whatever on line for me to upload photos.

which means that I can’t show you a lovely sunset either…

About Holly

fiber person - knitter, spinner, weaver who spent 33 years being a military officer to fund the above. And home. And family. Sewing and quilting projects are also in the stash. After living again in Heidelberg after retiring (finally) from the U.S. Army May 2011, we moved to the US ~ Dec 2015. Something about being over 65 and access to health care. It also might have had to do with finding a buyer for our house. Allegedly this will provide me a home base in the same country as our four adult children, all of whom I adore, so that I can drive them totally insane. Considerations of time to knit down the stash…(right, and if you believe that…) and spin and .... There is now actually enough time to do a bit of consulting, editing. Even more amazing - we have only one household again. As long as everyone understands that I still, 40 years into our marriage, don't do kitchens or bathrooms. For that matter, not being a golden retriever, I don't do slippers or newspapers either. I don’t miss either the military or full-time clinical practice. Limiting my public health/travel med/consulting and lecturing to “when I feel like it” has let me happily spend my pension cruising, stash enhancing (oops), arguing with the DH about where we are going to travel next and book buying. Life is good!
