Waffle Cake

My other alternative for naming was going to be “Mixed Feelings.”

But it seemed like it would be most fun to start on an upnote. Rather than go for cake (or if I was on NCL, this would most definitely be a crepe) I decided that since they had small, fancy waffles with all sorts of things you could use for toppers (syrups, sprinkles, flakes, whipped cream) this could happily serve as my cake. Who wants that many candles, I mean seriously not even counting the fact that I am on a ship and there is not a chance for open flames.

Wait – I take that back – I could probably safely put number candles on my cake if I took it up and sat in the smokers areas. No, not going there, that you very much.

Otherwise, had a quiet day, chatting with a few other people in the lounge, stitching, and probably having more coffee than was good for me. And then there was the Valkyries-Wings game. The ship doesn’t get that ESPN secondary channel so watching wasn’t an option without subscribing. I was following the play-by-play on the WNBA app – then it flaked out. Turned out that the play-by-play was so much better on the ESPN Website.

So…The Valkyries pulled out a win in the last minute of the game. Acutally, probably the less than last 30 seconds. Too many missed baskets early and too many fouls on the other team’s shooters.  Miriam and her partner went to the game since I obviously wasn’t going to be able to make it. In addition, there was no way George would have been able to make it back from SF to spend a scheduled night with the grandsons while their mom works a night shift.

The mixed feelings? I am very glad the Valkyries won – but that puts them in the semi-finals and puts me on the hook for the tickets (part of the season ticket holder contract).  And they are sold out of season tickets (leaving about 20% of the seats open for single ticket sales….which isn’t a lot in this market).  Being another year older? Whatever!

About Holly

fiber person - knitter, spinner, weaver who spent 33 years being a military officer to fund the above. And home. And family. Sewing and quilting projects are also in the stash. After living again in Heidelberg after retiring (finally) from the U.S. Army May 2011, we moved to the US ~ Dec 2015. Something about being over 65 and access to health care. It also might have had to do with finding a buyer for our house. Allegedly this will provide me a home base in the same country as our four adult children, all of whom I adore, so that I can drive them totally insane. Considerations of time to knit down the stash…(right, and if you believe that…) and spin and .... There is now actually enough time to do a bit of consulting, editing. Even more amazing - we have only one household again. As long as everyone understands that I still, 40 years into our marriage, don't do kitchens or bathrooms. For that matter, not being a golden retriever, I don't do slippers or newspapers either. I don’t miss either the military or full-time clinical practice. Limiting my public health/travel med/consulting and lecturing to “when I feel like it” has let me happily spend my pension cruising, stash enhancing (oops), arguing with the DH about where we are going to travel next and book buying. Life is good!
