This and That

This and that
There are those days on which I am really together and can write on a theme. Perhaps expressing myself clearly, or at least talking about something important. Other days are like today, a nice sunny day with balmy temperatures. There are soldiers outside working in short sleeves and running PT. A number of you, it seems are dealing with snow, ice, rain, and other assorted nasties. Bagram is high plateau (elevation about that of Denver) and quite dry. I can’t be sorry that I am snow deprived.

Instead I sat outside for a short while listening to an audio book and knitting a sock. A very short while when it occurred to me that I was the stuckee for a 1300 meeting. Sliding into my chair right on time, I added candy to the bin on the table (Hanukah boxes had excess candy), dropped a “do it yourself Hanukah kit” in the lap of another officer (menorah, candles, yarmulke, dreidel, candy, cards) and managed to stay lively during the short meeting.

Since I had walked all the way over (less than a mile, sunshine, lots of saluting) checking email seemed a worthwhile endeavor. Hours later, I am still here. I avoided Black Friday completely – nowhere to go shopping and there is really nothing that I need. That doesn’t mean that I haven’t been viewing Audiobookstand and Audible, just that I have resisted temptation and whiled away enough hours that it is once again dark.

There were a baker’s dozen at services last night – winding up being both a fine time and a source for all the goodies mentioned above. Between synagogues across the country and Aleph we are more than well supplied.

Last evening, heading home with goodies, I started thinking about the effort it would take to start fresh websites and blog. I drifted off to sleep not sure if it was worth the effort. Today, I am much more optimistic. George reached HostEurope on the phone yesterday. They have my data, my bill has been paid – I can even have my site/s back. I suppose I should take the opportunity to accomplish a major clean up.

Thank you! It was good to get your post and hear from you, although the idea of Black Friday from Bagram startled me and then made me laugh. The internet! Of course! It can be boycotted that way too!

Who or what is Aleph? I’m glad that you have menorahs, etc for Hanukkah.

I’m really glad to hear the blog issue has been straightened out. I look forward to reading more about your duties and amusements in the field.
