The Sun that doesn’t set

The Sun is circling in the sky. Or rather, we offset in a circle it is describing along the horizon.

The daily program simply says that the sun will stay above the horizon.

We are too far north for the sun to be rising in the east. It is not rising, it hasn’t done so for a couple of days now. Not because it is dark but rather since we are north of the Arctic Circle and it is mid-June, it is no longer setting. At night the sun is describing an arc across the northern quadrant of the sky at least a hand’s breath above the horizon. As the day progresses it appears to travel both in a southernly direction as well as getting higher in the sky. At noon it is almost directly overhead or perhaps a bit south before it starts to sink toward both the horizon and the north. Not the west – but it is headed north where it will spend tonight making sure that we all understand that needing darkness for sleep is our problem and nothing to do with the earth titling on its axis.

The world is not for our convienence but we adapt hence I have actually had the thought of pulling curtains to somewhat darken down the light in the cabin. One doesn’t need artificial light to knit or read in the evening.

Now you’re actually cruising somewhere I’d like to tour.

Brrrr! I’m very happy in 83 deg. NJ. However, if you would like some cicadas to keep you company in the frozen northland, let me know.

What did you buy? I was in Malmo, Sweden a gazillion years ago, and managed to get to a yarn shop. Very lovely stuff.
