the “final” cruise day

Today doesn’t officially count as a sea day as we docked in Freeport. I spent the morning again in the Yacht Club lounge in my favorite location. One of the night staff has been absolutely wonderful and turns on the lights for me early. Even so, this particular chair falls under one of the spots that is always on.

These chairs appear bland and a bit too modern for me, but turn out to be quite comfortable, even for an extended stay.

And this was the final jig-saw puzzle.. Apparently all the puzzle fanatics skipped starting/finishing a new one in favor of stalking the deck looking for the Bahamas.

The Captain’s Reception and Farewell (pretty standard for all ships).

As we were approaching the pier – the Vision of the Seas was departing. I have sailed on her a number of times including a transAtlantic followed by a Panama Canal crossing back in 2012. She isn’t all that big a ship by modern standards (about 1800 passengers if fully loaded), but seems huge in comparison to us.

We docked on time. And then there was a mechanical issue having to do with the gangway which was resolved. The command staff disembarked – in order to complete paperwork, some passengers might have also gotten off – just to do it.

Looking out from my balcony –

Nothing seemed to have changed from the last time I docked here (2022 off Star Legend) and before that? Believe it or not – it was on the Vision of the Seas in 2012. And that was not our originally scheduled port. Most of the merchants were tearing down their stalls. It was getting late and a ship with so few passengers? Probably not worth staying.

And it took me about 15 minutes max to pack, double and triple check the cabin….Bags out here at 0600 tomorrow.

Finally – I finished as much as I could on Seasonal Skies –

When I get home – I am going to take a deep breath, pull out more DMC 3761 and put in the last 465 stitches in the frame. Almost the last UFO from the ignore cubby.

About Holly

fiber person - knitter, spinner, weaver who spent 33 years being a military officer to fund the above. And home. And family. Sewing and quilting projects are also in the stash. After living again in Heidelberg after retiring (finally) from the U.S. Army May 2011, we moved to the US ~ Dec 2015. Something about being over 65 and access to health care. It also might have had to do with finding a buyer for our house. Allegedly this will provide me a home base in the same country as our four adult children, all of whom I adore, so that I can drive them totally insane. Considerations of time to knit down the stash…(right, and if you believe that…) and spin and .... There is now actually enough time to do a bit of consulting, editing. Even more amazing - we have only one household again. As long as everyone understands that I still, 40 years into our marriage, don't do kitchens or bathrooms. For that matter, not being a golden retriever, I don't do slippers or newspapers either. I don’t miss either the military or full-time clinical practice. Limiting my public health/travel med/consulting and lecturing to “when I feel like it” has let me happily spend my pension cruising, stash enhancing (oops), arguing with the DH about where we are going to travel next and book buying. Life is good!
