Summing up April

This has been perhaps the longest month for me since the start of the Pandemic. I am not really sure why. I could point to a myriad of factors, but in truth, it feels like all the waves over my head came crashing down at once.

It wasn’t just that I had a lot of conferences on my schedule, some of which have the audacity to start at insane times in the morning. Admittedly, those times are not insane – if you happen to live in Tel Aviv, Geneva, or Glasgow. But since my time zone happens to be GMT-8 while on daylight savings time, it is really early in the morning. Trust me on that.

Then there have also been the two courses at Cal which I have been participating in, some for my own interest and some as a guest lecturer. That pretty much wiped out all day Mon + Wed afternoon.

Add in working 2-3 days a week at one of two immunization sites (shifts are 10 hours + travel….)

Did I mention dental work?

Ok, all of that is probably more than enough whining out of me.

I will start fresh in the morning and perhaps have it together a bit more this coming month.

About Holly

fiber person - knitter, spinner, weaver who spent 33 years being a military officer to fund the above. And home. And family. Sewing and quilting projects are also in the stash. After living again in Heidelberg after retiring (finally) from the U.S. Army May 2011, we moved to the US ~ Dec 2015. Something about being over 65 and access to health care. It also might have had to do with finding a buyer for our house. Allegedly this will provide me a home base in the same country as our four adult children, all of whom I adore, so that I can drive them totally insane. Considerations of time to knit down the stash…(right, and if you believe that…) and spin and .... There is now actually enough time to do a bit of consulting, editing. Even more amazing - we have only one household again. As long as everyone understands that I still, 40 years into our marriage, don't do kitchens or bathrooms. For that matter, not being a golden retriever, I don't do slippers or newspapers either. I don’t miss either the military or full-time clinical practice. Limiting my public health/travel med/consulting and lecturing to “when I feel like it” has let me happily spend my pension cruising, stash enhancing (oops), arguing with the DH about where we are going to travel next and book buying. Life is good!

It’s always a delight to hear from you again after such a long time.

You know how us old folks worry.

    • Holly says:

Not so old, but totally and completely blah. Not going anywhere, not sailing anywhere. Amazon? Mekong Delta? Maybe 2022???

  2. Ron says:

But surely boats are sailing again from the U.S.A.? Or sailing the entire Mississippi on a paddle wheeler?

    • Holly says:

Start date from US ports (for non-US flagged vessels) is not earlier than Aug, and it may wind up being Sept.

The Rivers, yes, but they are going through some of the areas that are the lowest in vaccine compliance.

I’ve been missing you! I assumed it was me, being quite caught up in all that is involved in a move with multiple parts. Am now a Missourian! I brought yarn, fabric, needles and books with me, but have as yet unpacked precious little of anything not required for daily life.

  4. Cat says:

I know how you feel – the hours other people keep are totally insane!
