The sun is shining, the weather is warm.
It took about 15 minutes to tour the local museum (no pictures allowed) which does a nice job of summarizing the history of the island. Part of the explanation actually is obvious in the lack of professional curation, quality presentation and environmental controls. Instead, breezes blow in the open window and I don’t quite get the photo ban. Like most of the islands, the story is simple – natives+Europeans+slaves=sugar plantations followed by various reforms, government changes and eventual independence when having a dependency just gets too expensive to maintain for the “white masters.”
The port area seems extremely similar to what I remember of Nassau with the tourist/tour/sales area right up front.
When I get off the internet (nice restaurant on shore) I am going to wander a while prior to heading back to the ship. Being neither a beach nor a tour person, I am more than happy just wandering around. It also means that I don’t have any photos for you at present.
Tomorrow is St Maarten. Been there before too…… might just sign up for a hike up the mountain.
We had neighbors in Saudi in the 80’s who always flew back through Zurich. The rumor was that they had won a European lottery, big time.
I’ve heard that you can also access these St Kitts accounts by mail.
One of those accounts would make a good excuse to take a Caribbean cruise annually. I just wish I had the cash for same.
