Quantum of the Seas – Cabins #2

(re-arranged order …) – Now Ship, Basketball, Cabin.

Today was the “Cheers with an Officer” which used to be Meal with an Officer back before Royal became a victim of its own success. Then there might have been 20-40 people, the Hotel Director & Loyalty Ambassador usually rounded up junio staff (for “their experience” and we sat in groups of 6-8 at a table. It was lovely, the food was great and it afforded an opportunity to find out more about the actual running of the ship.

Then the program became more popular, more and more people made senior status… which still might have worked had the pandemic not happened. that break allowed a lot of changes. It now is a fancy lunch which starts with greetings and introductions from the senior officers and department heads. Then they all leave and we have a nice lunch. Whoopee ..not. I did my usual which was hang out in the back, had a lovely lunch and left while the majority of people (looked to be well over 200) ate and drank.

Basketball – One of the playoff games today was on Prime so I was able to watch the Fever defeat the Aces … and commit themselves to a third game. Then sadness followed. I had to watch the running play list as no access to that particular TV provider..Not sure what is going on with the Lynx (home Minnesota Team) but they never got it together. First time a #8 team (NY Liberty) has ever knocked out the #1 team -in the first round. to follow on with issue/complaint/rant about Royal Caribbean and their cabin assigning games – I would say that I feel fortunate to have enough status to have access to the Suites lounge and not be stuck with 500+ other people trying to use the much smaller space of the Crown Lounge (which is so named because it used to be at the top of the ship on the original ships… and …. never mind.

Cain update. The Concierge here is lovely, competent and it took him less that five minutes to arrange me getting moved to a regular inside cabin. Funny thing – the ship is not sold out, so there really was absolutely no reason for the home office to downgrade my cabin. Yes, I am relocating forward – no sweat. Inside corridor – again no issue, down a couple of decks – again no issue. What I am not is under the stage or directly over an anchor. I am fine.

Yesterday it took me two short trips to move everything. Could have asked for help, but this is cleaning time and the staff has enough to do. Besides, I swapped hangers from the new cabin to the studio rather than repack and unpack. Actually, to be honest, it took longer to make sure that I had rounded up my cross word supplies than it clothing and other personal supplies.

Otherwise – I can continue to catch the CME Webinars out of the UC system. UCSF gives you 6 days to check in, so I can do that when we hit Kona on Saturday and I can turn on my phone. I am not bothering to even try the commercial app as no one I know has ever managed to make it work. For the other two UC systems – I will just have to email the help desk – as they have much shorter time frames (one has 30 min after the other 3 hours…)

And if you have made it this far ….. thank you!

About Holly

fiber person - knitter, spinner, weaver who spent 33 years being a military officer to fund the above. And home. And family. Sewing and quilting projects are also in the stash. After living again in Heidelberg after retiring (finally) from the U.S. Army May 2011, we moved to the US ~ Dec 2015. Something about being over 65 and access to health care. It also might have had to do with finding a buyer for our house. Allegedly this will provide me a home base in the same country as our four adult children, all of whom I adore, so that I can drive them totally insane. Considerations of time to knit down the stash…(right, and if you believe that…) and spin and .... There is now actually enough time to do a bit of consulting, editing. Even more amazing - we have only one household again. As long as everyone understands that I still, 40 years into our marriage, don't do kitchens or bathrooms. For that matter, not being a golden retriever, I don't do slippers or newspapers either. I don’t miss either the military or full-time clinical practice. Limiting my public health/travel med/consulting and lecturing to “when I feel like it” has let me happily spend my pension cruising, stash enhancing (oops), arguing with the DH about where we are going to travel next and book buying. Life is good!
